Listen up Dear Friends,
If any of you think the Russian Bear is going away simply because many of you are want to ignore the problem, wish it away, or find peace at any price, forget it! Pat Buchanan and all of the isolations are in for a rude awakening.
Here is what is going to happen unless some drastic measures are taken.
South Ossetia and Abkhasia have been declared independent territories, and by default part of Russia, splitting Georgia in half.
Since the vast majority of residents in both areas are ethnic Georgians, this will not be tolerated. Guerilla warfare will break out, and Russian soldiers will die.
This will lead to an all out attack on Georgia and subjugation of that country.
Russia cut all ties with NATO today, so it now has it sights set on Poland, Ukraine and the Baltics (Latvia, Lithuania, & Estonia). Russia still believes it is their divine right to annex these countries even though until 1945 they were independent sovereignties or part of other countries through history. Belarus will be no problem, like France in both World Wars, they will invite the invaders in.
Since the Western Europeans are basically cowards and will not stand up for themselves until the Russian boots are on their necks, nothing will come from them. Also, I guess it is more important to have the Russian oil that is 25% of their energy sources, than a future for their children.
Syria is in Moscow today buying weapons for the Mideast. Any ideas of how they will be used?
Forget the U.N. for no other reason than Russia has veto power over any of their actions, as if they would do anything in the first place.
Could it be that this South Ossetia and Abkhasia invasion could be the equivalent of shooting Archduke Ferdinand?
Time will tell, but the lack of action from the West will certainly insure that a storm is coming. How many more will die for the arrogance of megalomaniacs like Vladimir Putin?
It is far too obvious that Putin believes that the election this fall will mean a takeover by the liberals and will insure that the U.S. will be a totally neutered and whooped pup. He believes there is no one in the West to stop him.
The West must defend Georgia, and the rest of the East Europe countries, death warrants are being written as we watch. All of our children’s futures are at stake!
Vigilance,
The Hammer

As far as the elections are concerned, God help us all, no matter who wins, since we really don't have any "leaders" running anywhere.
I am open to any ideas, but casting blame accomplishes nothing, but making the caster look silly and "ill-informed".

Our goal is to help you further your exposure and to support other gather members.
Its to bad that people think we should have a draft so we can protect European cowards that refuse to take any actions to protect themselves. I have fought in one war and do not intend to fight in another for flag wavers that always talk aggression and then go back to their easy chair and never see a military base or the real horror of war.
If America didn't lie its way through every situation that comes up the problem with Russia would not be there now.
Isolation is nonsense in today's world and so is U.S. policy. These Bush followers are so brainwashed that they fail to see what the real reasons for the problems like Russia taking aggressive action is all about.
Russia would not be moving back into communism if we had any leadership that could have taken control when Russia fell apart.
going back to 1945, Russia would not have taken control of so many countries if Truman, Churchill, and Stalin were not allowed to divide up the world for their own personal interests.
I agree the U.S. has no leadership now because it on a permanent vacation or drawing up new ways to screw over the next country that calls us friend but Americans better hope the next election produces a better leader than what we have had since Reagan.
Ya know, I often hear criticism of Muslims in general, for not "subduing" the radical violence preaching Mullahs, who espouse that their societies face a heartless beast, that wishes to dominate the world, and cannot be reasoned with, and peacefully approached.
And those very same people, that claim this failure to stifle those war-mongers in the Islamic universe, then say this proves that Islam actually is a world domination seeking heartless beast, which cannot be reasoned with, and peaceful approached.
Hear, I see a Mullah seeking to stir up the populace to see Russia too as a heartless monster, not like us, which must be dealt with most sternly, and single mindedly, to save us from their blood thirsty plots and plans . . . and I don't doubt for an instant, that over in Russia, this Mullahs words look pretty darn harsh, and violence inducing . . .
Well, to avoid being guilty of not speaking up, and decrying the mullahs in my society, who preach fear and aggression, rather than consider attempts to reason these complex matters through, I hereby condemn you most strongly. You are with those other mullahs in Russia, and Islam, to me. You are a part of the problem, not the solution.
If Russia shuts the spigot of the oil and or natural gas pipeline, as Russia in now the largest producer of oil in the world, it’ll hurt a lot. Finland gets 100% of it’s natural gas from Russia and Germany will freeze this winter if Russia want it to.
This is the Russian leverage. Oil will go as high in price as Russia wants it too. I would see $400 a barrel for oil as not out of the question.
However, if you like the last 8 years in the US, then vote for Mc Cain.
Otherwise I would suggest that one votes for someone that is able to understand the issues with Russia. NATO in the countries that border Russia will be out of the question.
Denying a problem exists will not solve the problem
For some of the others:
Casting blame is just silly when the future is at stake. Many of you have to get it through your heads that this is not a game or a TV show.
As far as this election is concerned there are no answers. If I had my choice I wouldn't vote for either of them. I think "None of the Above" would win by a landslide.
Unless you know the actual facts there now, I wouldn't make any statements about the conditions.
Putin is NOT a socialist and does not give a crap about Russia or her people. socialism is alive and well here, but not in most other countries.
"there is only one issue with Russia, Putin and his minions have all of the money, and most of the Russians can't get enough food to eat."
I hope you don't for a moment believe there are not your counterparts in Russia saying the exact same things about Mr. Bush, and his pals.
PS - "Denying a problem exists will not solve the problem"
Obviously I know that . . . I'm here, aren't I?
Have you any idea what is going on over there? My wife has relatives in Moscow and Killiningrad and is kept abreast of everything.
As a matter of fact, Bush is more highly regarded there than here, believe it or not.
Putin is feared, not regarded.
The majority of Russians can't afford to eat well. The pensioners have had their retirement allotments reduced to almost nothing as costs sky-rocket. They get enough each month to buy about a kilo (2.2) of cheese. Yet meals in Moscow can run from $100 to $3000.
The streets of Moscow are teeming with people from the villages is search of any work they can find, and with kids that have no homes.
Those of you that sit there in your comfortable chairs at your computer saying everything is nice over there, and awful here are living in Bizzaro world.
If this only involved us, I wouldn't care as much, but it our children and grandchildren's future you are tossing out the window.
Loaded with propagada hot off the line.
I believe you are concerned, and have reason to be. However, a general call to feel afraid and demand action, from a government which has already demonstrated all too much willingness to do reckless and belligerent things, for reasons that shift as often as a modern politicians positions, is not wisdom.
We need to get smart, not scared. If you're so big and tough, prove it, and quit screaming like a little girl. I'm sorry to have to speak so bluntly, but I too feel much concern, and I can see that mullahs are not needed now.
Maybe it is because I am too close to the situation, and empathize too much with the Russian people and the peoples of Eastern Europe.
This is a region of tribal warfare going back 2 millennium, and Putin is taking advantage of it for his own gain, not Russia's.
Why should we be aware or be involved? Because it will eventually fall on us, as it has twice before, and now the economic implications are disastrous. You have no idea how far this could go. Our whole way of life could be changed permanently.
There is little if any blame on anyone here, liberal or conservative. The entire blame is on Putin, even though it might bring some sort of sad comfort for those who would like to blame someone here for it (no names mentioned of who to blame).
It is not our job to police the world.
Right on, Lori.
Russia had no vital interest in Iraq and Afghanistan as they were terrorist to them also.
However, they do have a monetary interest in Iran and are supporting them against us.
We are too damn soft. We sold 4 million tons of food to Iran last week, simply because we have it and don't want to hurt their people, and we got the money for it. That makes no sense to me either, since it will just help to keep our food prices higher, and support an enemy that wants us dead, at least their leadership does. Though I do believe that a lot of their people are caught in the middle also.
It's juvenile, pointless, and, wasteful, and, at this point, damned dangerous. Of course, as anyone who pays attention knows full well, the "right" in this country have nothing BUT fear and divisiveness to offer, which is why they rely so heavily upon it.
Why people cannot see that all of these boogiemen that have been invented over the past 60 years is nothing but an overt drama brought to us by the monumentally corrupt and anti-American military industrial complex is beyond me. By now, it must take herculean effort to remain ignorant towards this.
Just look at where 60+ years of military industrial complex fearmongering/warmongering have gotten this nation...our constitution lies in tatters, we spend exponentially more per year on our military than any other nation on the planet and even more than all combined, we are saddled with gargantuan debt, we are mired in 2 endless and unwinnable (as well as entirely pointless) occupations with more undoubtedly looming on the horizon, we have 160 military bases scattered around the globe (all to protect American corporate interests), we devote (by far) the largest portion of annual budget towards fattening the already grotesquely over-fattened military industrial complex, and we allow this monstrosity to be the largest consumer of oil, thereby insuring our permanent dependence on foreign oil at continued risk to national security.
It's time to put an end to this. Our founding fathers warned us and intentionally created a militia in order to avoid a standing military, Eisenhower warned us as he left office, but all warnings went unheeded after WWII. It's time to finally crush this very real, omnipresent threat to democracies around the world, known as the US military industrial complex. THAT is our enemy, kids.
That would be interesting, if it had anything to do with the topic at hand.
As it is it is just more ranting from the Socialist Left.
Sorry.
Try to do something now, or plan on losing millions of lives later. Your choice.
For you ranters out there, this IS NOT FEAR or WARMONGERING but simple common sense.
I feel fine, sassy, happy, and enjoy life. Do you?
I've lived through the 60's and 70's, I think I can live through most anything.
I call my children (1 still lives with us), pet my dogs and cat, help my wife with the garden, watch a little mind numbing TV, and try to make some money, and hope to keep a small part of it. Ain't life grand?
As it is it is just more ranting from the Socialist Left.
Sorry. "
For some stupid reason, I actually made the mistake of assuming that you'd be bright enough to realize that both are connected. My mistake. Sorry. I won't assume you bright enough to comprehend such complexities in the future.
I don't think he'd qualify to be a republican if he didn't act arrogant, condescending, and ignorant, would he?
And, my name isn't "jocko". More typical attempts at name calling when you have nothing constructive to say. Though I am just a normal human being, I try very much not to stoop to name calling, I let others do that.
I guess you don't want to be my friend after all. Too bad, you don't know what you are missing.
I think the rub comes from a statement like: "How many more will die for the arrogance of megalomaniacs like Vladimir Putin?"
Who disagrees. But what it leaves out is the counterpart, and our responsibility not to let it happen: "How many more will die for the arrogance of megalomaniacs like George W. Bush?"
Putin is what he is and we know it. Bush was the one who tried to sugar coat him with his Pooty Poot language and nonsense about having looked into his eyes and seen his soul. Anyone who looks into Bush's eyes will see a fool. Putin wasn't aggressing until somebody poked him with a stick. Who was that? Why would they behave so recklessly?
Let me help you, sweetiepiekins.
Listen up Dear Friends, Listen up? Who do you think you're talking to? Dear friends? You don't know me. Surely you don't think I'm stupid enough to let your calling me dear friend make me believe you actually consider me a dear friend so I'll sit at attention and believe what you have to say, do you?
If any of you think Oh, we go straight from "dear friend" to "if you think something I don't, you must be crazy." Nice.
the Russian Bear is going away simply because many of you are want to ignore the problem, Okay, second line and I'm already wondering who you think you are. "Simply" because "you want to ignore" - In case no one has ever bothered to tell you, those are the words of an arrogant ass.
wish it away, or find peace at any price, forget it! Because you, who have zero credibility with me and have already angered me, say so? Right. If I agreed with your point before, I might want to change my mind just to avoid being associated with you.
Here is what is going to happen Really? And you are this certain? You know exactly what is going to happen. No, some people think, this is what I think will happen, this is what could happen, there is evidence that leads me to believe? Just a flat out "here it is, dear friend that I like to insult"?
Then, after you relay your fantasy in "this is for sure" language, you come up with: Time will tell, and follow with some Putin mind reading.
The Hammer Do all of your dear friends call you hammer?
I hope you this helps. I have no problem with 'in your face' opinion pieces. The problem here is that I think you tried to disguise it as something else.
What none of you realize is that Putin has been quietly doing what he has ever since he got the chance. I don't care who would have been President, it would have been the same. who knows, maybe worse, probably. All you would have to do is speak with my wife for 10 minutes and I guarantee you would change your mind.
If you are really frank with yourself, Bush is not in the same league with Putin no matter what. I agree he has made a lot of mistakes and I for one hold it against him also.
If you read the article I wrote today, you will clearly see that.
The worst part of all about the Presidential race in 2000 & 2004 is that the alternatives were even worse, and this year tops all of them. So what can we do?
the last thing you can call me is a Neo-Con. They hate me too.
Is your blood pressure down yet? If you really want to be my sweetiepiekins, slow down a tad.
I am truly sorry to say and I apologize for saying it, the only arrogance, I see in all of these comments, etc. is yours. Again, ranting and raving does not become you or anyone else.
I would offer that, I have a lot more background in this than you do, and many of the others.
I just don't get how any of you think you can discuss anything, or convince anyone of anything, when you get so personal with all of the name calling. Life is too short, please before you have stroke, take a breathe and calm down.
Discussions and even arguments should be on ideology and facts.
Face it, most everything is Bush's fault (he's in charge, damn it) but like Hitler, he would have been nothing if he had not been enabled. He should have been impeached already. Tried for war crimes if there was any justice in this world. So I blame anyone who ever voted for him and has not repented and all the rubber stamp Congress people who let him get away with shredding the Constitution, with torture, with unprovoked war, etc., etc., etc. That includes some spineless Democrats, but it is mostly Republicans. It wasn't my party that Bush highjacked.
But, I think we can all agree that Bush and Co. have not been the best diplomats in the world during their tenure and have done their absolute best to inflame the relationships that were carefully built over many years before them by much, much wiser people. And that they also thrive and build support from fear and knee-jerk reactions to situations without seeking other alternatives, like diplomacy and working alongside other nations to work these out without the use of force.
As individuals citizens, there is little we can do to stop them if they are dead set on getting us into a possible multi-national conflict again. I write my reps in Washington, as I'm sure you do. But, I think one of the ways each of us can help the situation is by not buying into the fear-mongering tactics they are so adept at using to secure support from the American public. And I am afraid your article sounds like you are playing right into their hands in this way.
........but I still think you wrote an excellent article, Bert.............
Do you realize how little power the President actually? if that were not true, I would be afraid... especially of what lies ahead.
There is nothing inflammatory about the title, it is a simple statement of the truth. Those listed are always trying to compromise with the enemy and get us in trouble. Where Bush did that I agree with you.
I don't even compare Putin to Hitler. That is an old and trite comparison that has little meaning. I know you hate Bush, but wait and see if you don't get a whole lot worse.
I am not playing into anyone's hands. Wait until you read my next article. I can guarantee I will be on the Neo-Cons hit list. I simply try to call it as I see it.
As I have said many times, I am married to a Russian and get a whole different perspective on that end of this. If I sound arrogant saying this, I sincerely apologize, but what lies ahead is nothing to ignore and we must be prepared, mentally if nothing else. You have no idea who we are dealing with. I can totally agree that Bush missed the boat on this one, that is with Putin.
We have not seen the likes of him in decades. MY fear is that most of our citizens have forgotten the lessons of the past. We can not negotiate, and we can not depend on our allies, at least not until the sand kicked in their face is above their eyebrows.
So what do we do? Writing letters is admirable, but most of the people in Washington care little for us or the country. They want photo-ops and money.
"I simply try to call it as I see it."
Well, there's nothing objectionable about doing that. It's the "scary story" aspect which is causing folks to NOT listen to you. Present your belief, and whatever evidence you might have to lend credibility to it, and perhaps some form of action folks might take, if they felt your fears were justified . . . and few would find reason to speak ill of such a thing. I think.
We are simply inundated with such scary stories, particularly right before our "government" goes ballistic, so to speak, and turns the scary story into justification for behaving like barbaric imbeciles. They have a clear propensity for raising the fear level, in order to do stuff like invading other countries, and not being held accountable for exactly why, or, what actually transpires in comparison to what they claimed would result. They simply point back to how scary some character was to everybody, and go on to the next boogyman.
You may very well be correct about Mr. Putin, but simply laying out an imaginary string of hypothetical "consequences" people supposedly are invoking by not feeling much fear about him, and accusing folks of being ignorant and unlearned for not demanding a vague "stopping action", only makes you look paranoid. We just have the one Administration, and many, many people are really not in the mood to grant it more license to engage in "cowboy diplomacy". They have very good reasons for being "gun-shy", and telling them they don't, isn't going to fly.
Yeah... but every liberal can say and phrase anyway they want with no objection from the peanut gallery... Clark is a case in point ALWAYS.
Having a Russian wife gives you a perspective, but one Russian doesn't speak for Russia any more than one American speaks for Russia. And what would you have us do anyway? We don't have troops or any teeth to bite with.
One other thing, I think all of you should give the U.S. a whole lot more credit than you do. I am not alone in thinking this is a great country, and when forced to, we can handle a situation, we've done it before.
One of the problems with the conflicts since the Korean War is that the general public has not had to sacrifice and is for the most part complacent. Except for the families of the fallen military personnel, nothing has been expected of any us. Just keep buying and keep the economy going, that's about it.
It is not just complacency, it is total lack of caring, not wanting to be bothered. Go out on the street and ask ten people to name one Supreme Court Justice, a Senator from their State, or even the President. Don't count on getting many correct answers.
