Miscellaneous is the category of the budget that seems to eat up all your money, and you never remember where it went. About 5 percent of your total spending should be allocated for gifts, ice cream sundaes and so on.

(note from Marsha--I had decided to make my goal to tithe 10%, save 10% for "emergencies" and use the other 80% for rent, bills etc. After reading this one I think the extra 5% for gifts and treats sounds like an excellent idea, so I am going to add that in leaving me 75% for bills etc)
