So why is it, I ask that I don't feel like writing?

You know with the economy the way it is today and politics all over the news,

musharraf no longer in Pakistan,


President Bush going to the Olympics and

Georgia fighting with Russia, It seems there is no shortage of things to write about.

 

So why is it, I ask that I don't feel like writing?

 

What do you do when you get this way?

I read what others have to say and comment on their work. That will keep the creative juices flowing until you are ready to write.

Maybe your just not inspired to write? When the inspiration hits you, you'll write. I always take walks myself, it really lets your mind think and ponder.

Yesterday another friend was laid off. She is pretty, bright, hard working. The business she was working for is just not doing well. It is a big plant nursery. The domino effect is everywhere.

Sometimes you just need a break... when I get this way, more often than not as of late; I find comfort and inspiration in music... If nothing else, I will take one word or line out of one of the songs that strikes me to smile and just doodle from there... I always end up with something... and usually smiling! Hot drinks are always good too!

Sound like you're depressed. Nothing kills the muse like depression. So do what you can to get happy and the words will likely follow. For me that means, time in nature, time totally alone or in the company of bright intellectual people--a poetry reading or soething like that. Read your favorite writer in a long warm bath. That almost always inspires me. Hang in there.

Actually Fred, I have been writing articles that are more and more my own, and it seems less and less people read them. Which makes me wonder. Is my writing that bad or is it Gather? As for you, you will find your passion again. Maybe you just need a break.

I read. If you have problems, seek solutions. You might take the time to check out Invisible Hand on the monitor near you. :-)

Just knowing that the problems of today do have solutions should make you feel better. We don't have to live with these problems.

Get away from your writing space for awhile. Do something physical.
Change your perspective. Explore a bit

If it's not something I HAVE to do, then I just wait until I feel like writing or have the inspiration to write. If I DO have to write...well, actually, I never do... I'm retired...

What do you do when you get this way?

I read what others have written. I edit things that I have already written but weren't polished enough for use anywhere. I pull out the writing books and do some of the exercises at the end of chapters. I critique someone else's work. I work jigsaw or logic puzzles. I visit a friend, volunteer a few hours at the phone bank, and once in a great while I wash dishes, dust, or vacuum.

yeah, i like the advice of getting away from your writing space. go outside. go for a walk. go to the store. go run an errand. go do anything besides sit at your desk. it will give you a new perspective and a breather. :)
