"Latest male fashion trend: Men in tights

Though a recent trend, male hosiery has a long history.
Is a superhero in tights fueling a new fashion trend for men?
Or is it simply that some males find pantyhose a nice fit?
In this summer of "The Dark Knight" comes a craze for men's hosiery.
Retailers in Europe and the United States say that men are buying pantyhose - sheer, satin, glossy, opaque or support - in skyrocketing numbers in recent months.
.........According to retailers, some males simply appreciate the added insulation in colder climates. Other customers say hose provides support, stimulates circulation and alleviates muscle fatigue. Still others just like the way tights look and feel against the skin."
Ok, I saw this article in the paper this morning. I'll be honest; I was laughing out loud when I read this, and I needed the laugh.
Can someone explain to me why men would choose to wear tights, other than for medical or sports reasons? I spend every occasion, that I have to wear a skirt or dress, thinking of ways to avoid them, or in search of those tights which provide the greatest comfort--the lesser of the many evils on the market, control top pantyhose and tights are the work of an evil mind. What do you think?

there are footless leggings they can wear to keep warm,
that are specially for men.
I'm hoping that the ladies of the world will soon adjust their prejudices toward men's legwear, as it is a trend that's gathering steam. I've been wearing them for years now--albeit for medical and sports reasons, which may make it more palatable for Ms. Hendricks, the author. I mostly wear the sheer variety, since they're cooler than opaque tights, and I wear them under dress trousers at the office (a/c environment). They've very beneficial to me in minimizing venous insufficiency in my legs, and I also wear them when I run or cycle in chilly weather. They keep the chill off my leg muscles, w/o making me too hot by the time I'm done exercising.
BTW, the guy at E-Mancipate.net was not responsible for starting the men's legwear/pantyhose trend. There's too many guys wearing them for one guy to have done that single-handedly. It's been a grassroots groundswell that is nearing a tipping point where it will break out into the open soon. There were many men who wore them for a variety of (non-fetish) reasons, but were unaware of how many others there were--until the advent of the internet.
The managers of the L'Eggs fashion forum were blown away in the late 1990s when the discussion was almost completely co-opted by men who joined in to discuss the various reasons they were wearing pantyhose, etc. Not long afterwards, the first company to sell pantyhose marketed specifically to men was launched--ActivSkin/Comfilon (www. activskin.com). From there, along with the many news articles that have been written since then, we come to where we are now... there's probably nearly as many men who are wearing nylon hosiery as women, since the ladies seem to be giving it up at the same rate as us guys are taking it up.
Women can wear everything men can wear but not vice versa. In fact, I used to be able to wear shorts that were smooth and didn't have too many pockets. Nowadays, I'm stuck with choosing pleated vs roughwear. In trying to look for navy blue shorts that were cotton smooth, I kept finding the men's version out of stock and had to buy one from the women's section. Luckily, the shorts looked unisex enough that no one could tell that I was wearing a woman's shorts. My girlfriend teased me at first and even tickled me every time I'd wear them but she is tolerant. In fact, she thinks that if I try on some tights and pantyhose and wear them at least under my pants that I would understand women better. Maybe there's some truth to all that.
Society is often to blame for its lack of tolerance. Don't feel discouraged. I think men and women deserve to be free to choose what they want to wear and the society must practice tolerance. The only reason women are supposed to be the ones wearing tights and having "sexy" legs is they are set up from birth on the gender divide. Men are too and are often mentally coerced into accepting the role of being macho egotistical. Women meanwhile are convinced that men have to be macho "strong" and that any man who tries to step back and think, be reasonable, or even moderate is to be shunned as a "sissy". The macho egotistical disease has plagued both men and women for decades. With the way this country is crumbling on all fronts, the age of INTOLERANCE must end.
