My dad just had a "family meeting" where he pitched us his latest MLM scams. In case you are unaware, MLM stans for Multi Level Marketing, a.k.a. Pyramid Schemes. Over the past year, he's been working for a travel business MLM. You know the thing. You're guaranteed to get lower rates to places like gorgeous Colorado real estate and stay at luxurious accomodations. Or, you take a cruise with your family to the Caribbean or whatever. The problem with these companies is that they are very good at selling salesman to work for them, not actually selling product. I had a friend who got sucked into one of these scams selling cosmetics. It wasn't Dermablend cosmetics, but another well known product. They made her stockpile a ton of product at the beginning, buying it herself, and she was never able to get rid of it. Empty promises.
Another scam that you need to be aware of is fake raffles. Anyone can go online ad print off a raffle ticket template for free and encourage people to sell the tickets. Once they collect money from the ticket sales, they ditch the operation because they never had a prize to begin with. Shady.
Now, my dad is at it again, and I hear him saying the exact same words he said last time.
I'm trying to encourage him to spend his time working for a family business that we start from scratch. I'd love to sell something like this online. I want to get into a niche, capture some long tail traffic, make sales, repeat. Here's hoping he learns his lesson this time
