Dave Flynn is my dear friend and though this was a poem about Woodstock it is most assuredly about him! so... for the Month of Love I wish to submit this poem...
Another Poetic Mission Impossible Challenge from Chana
and this one was/is the hardest... a response to
Joni Mitchell's song Woodstock.. I mean she said it all!
Her song and links are at the bottom of the page.
For Dave and Chana

All Dave Flynn the Golden Child of God... first image two days after Woodstock/
Second image is Dave on one of the towers at Woodstock with all his friends who came with him. He is in the bottom right hand corner wearing no shirt and a dark hat and third image is a few years later in 1974 out west in Eugene Oregon. Yes, the middle image is one of the sound towers.. Dave is always moving at the heart of things.. he is just that kind of man!
I got a close up version of this image and dave flynn is at the bottom right corner no shirt with the brown hat on! and he is cute!

You can see the enlarged version and its worth it!
Butterfly Nation
I know a golden child of God
of the stardust tribe
who went to woodstock seeking answers
and became a part of the butterfly nation
to stand for life and a whole generation
while the world turned and burned
in a senseless conflagration
for a moment enduring in the universal
mind
like many he sought signs hoping to find
through music, love, freedom
the center of the great wheel
moving beyond time
and
getting back to the garden
back to the land
he did join in a rock and roll band
and set his soul free.

Joni Mitchell's Song (links to two versions of the song at end)
Woodstock
Woodstock
by Joni Mitchell
I came upon a child of God
He was walking along the road
And I asked him where are you going
And this he told me
I'm going on down to Yasgur's Farm
I'm going to join in a rock 'n' roll band
I'm going to camp out on the land
I'm going to try an' get my soul free
We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves
Back to the garden
Then can I walk beside you
I have come here to lose the smog
And I feel to be a cog in something turning
Well maybe it is just the time of year
Or maybe it's the time of man
I don't know who I am
But you know life is for learning
We are stardust
We are golden
And we've got to get ourselves
Back to the garden
By the time we got to Woodstock
We were half a million strong
And everywhere there was song and celebration
And I dreamed I saw the bombers
Riding shotgun in the sky
And they were turning into butterflies
Above our nation
We are stardust
Billion year old carbon
We are golden
Caught in the devil's bargain
And we've got to get ourselves
back to the garden

do not know why this one was so personally challenging but I am glad it reaches.
Peace and very groovy to hear your thoughts!
Isis
glowing in the warm sunshine
rolling naked in the muddy rain
taking back the day and night to gain
a worthy place to stand
a world that's yours and mine
and billions strong
learning that living isn't wrong
when you play to the music
of our ever after song
when I get BACK up
later this morning.
