The World is Waiting
The world is waiting, but not just for you.
That audience is never satisfied,
Grasping voraciously for something new,
Then tossing recent novelties aside.
And yet the greatest honor and respect
Is earned by those who stand upon that stage
Not vain about their charms or intellect -
But who modestly receive their accolades.
Yes, be amazed, and be amazing, too,
Cherish your gifts of heart and mind and grace.
The world is waiting but not just for you,
So celebrate your share of time and space.
And this is my affectionate advice:
There's nothing quite so cool as being nice.

My senior year english teacher pulled me aside on the last day of school, and told me that of all her students, I was one of the few who could do anything I set my mind to. At times when I'm frustrated by setbacks, I remember those words, and I know I can get through it. Keep on touching those lives, Mike. They will remember you for it.
This is absolutely beautiful!! The wisdom interwoven in these remarkably simplistic lines of poignancies reveal the refined talent of your penning. If I were a student and received something of this caliber from you as my teacher, I would frame it as a reminder of your integrity and your unique place in society.
Extend their reach
Sharing a balance of warnings and wisdoms.
Then, catch and release--they set them free
To watch them grow into who they'll be
As they build lives in their own little kingdoms.
Your words reminded me of the best teachers I ever had.
(And I was blessed to have so many really excellent leaders.)
They were sincere, they were nurturing or tough as needed,
They wanted the best for us, and it shined from them.
I still remember all their names, from K-12, all classes. I guess, because I studied them, knowing I wanted to be a teacher, too.
I bet you rawk the class.
Blessings on you at "this year's" graduation.
