On a cold rainy day, who can resist curling up on the couch with a good book and a hot beverage?
Gather is giving away free coupons of COFFEE-MATE that can be used towards purchasing any liquid powder or creamer product. I've taken my gather name from the main character in the book, Richard, whom when he was in jail, people took to calling him Richardmylove.
"The Scent Of God"
;)
The Grapes Of Weath by John Stienbeck
tomorrow it just might be
The World Below by Sue Miller
also The Holy Bible is a epic stroy of a history of a people
Favorite old book? The Dollmaker by Harriet Arnow.
The reason being that I remember as a child my dad reading that book to me every chance I got! He would read it to me as many times as I wanted. And now, I read it to my children!
I'll be good and narrow it to five or so... They are:
Dracula by Bram Stoker, Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell, The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon, The Firebrand by Marion Zimmer Bradley and Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.
Stephen King is my fav. writer, so anything he writes is good!!
Not necessary to count this in the contest as I would not use the coupons....just wanted to share my favorite book.
(I stalked Sonia here - I will have to look up that book as I am always on the look out for good ones.)
My favorite book:
The Butt Hello; And Other Ways My Cats Drive Me Crazy by Ted Meyer
In summer, my all time favorite and yes I read this book every summer is Guide Me To Eternity. It is written by Christine Tuttle Monsen. This book makes me cry everytime I read it. It just gets better and better each summer.
Cool!
Dead as she was, her influence and essence lived on to haunt.
Hard to proclaim.
What I will state is that the most artful use of the English language that I have ever savored is
by Beryl Markham.
Ah but ‘coffee table books’ are a specific category..
My most-enjoyed coffee table book was
by Robert Cameron
I guess my all time favorite book would be 'The Long Walk' by Stephen King, written under his pseudonym "Richard Bachman". It centers around the contestants of very strange walking contest and it has always stuck in my mind.
Okay...let me think. "Gil's All Fright Diner" by A. Lee Martinez was pretty funny, "The Stand" by Stephen King was an epic (took a couple pots of coffee to get through that one), I really like the "Rabbit" books by John Updike...and the "Foundation" books by Isaac Asimov. I can't pick just one....I'm gonna go get another cup o' joe with some french vanilla creamer and maybe after calming down I'll try to come up with one. or not.
I was also bowled over by The Secret Life of Bees. Great story about the strength of women and their relationships with each other.
Well, from the inside flap of Joshua: A Parable for Today:
Joseph Girzone wrote his parable in 1983 and published it himself with neither accompanying fanfare nor expectation of the extraordinary effect it would have on people around the world. With only word-of-mouth for advertising, and by virtue of its siniple message of love, Joshua became an international force of spiritual strength. After its modest beginnings, Joshua and its sequels have millions of readers around the world and continue to bring hope and peace to all who seek nourishment.
That's why. :-)
For about 20 years I kept a list of all the books I read and there are 1,840 books listed.
Wilbur Smith is one of my all time favorites. He writes about Africa

I love dearly everything written by Catherine Cookson. Maeve Binchy, Anne Tyler, Miss Pym,
Nelson Demille is one of my favorite authors - especially his book, "Up Country" about the Vietnam War.
I rated "Standing In the Rainbow', by Fannie Flagg as very very good.
"Sick Puppy" and "Skinny Dip" by Cark Hiaason were on the list for the funniest, but I also like "Cry Me a River" by T. R. Pearson.
"The Poisonwood Bible" is high on my altime best liked books also "That Old Ace in the Hole" by Anne Proulx and "China Boy" by Gus Lee is great.
James Alexander Thom's "The Frontiersman" is way up on my list.
"The Theory of Relativity" by Jacquelyn is Mitchard a very very good story of a court struggle for a child
Enough already! I can't decide.
Now I love to read cookbooks specially muffins.
I don't read a lot but a book I enjoyed that I have read is
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest.
the author has such a keen sense of Architechture and can draw you into his book and take you away to Gothic Church's , Forts, old bourgh dwellings and make you a part of the story. All of his writings have touched me that way.
I would love to have some coupons for CoffeeMate Creamers to use in my favorite TEAS, and my hubby would enjoy them in his coffee too!
thanks
I love Coffee-Mate's flavored liquid creamers!
There is something so wonderful about reading a good book and having some delicious coffee.
hm.
that was ten, wasn't it?
I come from Norwegian heritage so it was really interesting to read this wonderfully written book about Norwegian culture and how most Norwegian women did things.
I also learned some Norwegian words.
My fave genre is a post-apocalyptic horror/science fiction and my fave book is still
The Stand by Stephen King, which I first read (on a cross country road trip) way before the TV movie came out and ruined it.
I also JWTS that there are a TON of great books in this comment trail. I too loved Pillars of the Earth, ALL of Stephen King's AND Dean Koontz's books, the Narnia and LotR books.
I wish there were some way I could download all the titles of the books I haven't yet read so I can get em at my local library.
If you would like a copy of the list PM me and I'll fly one to you.
At last, another Shirley Jackson lover!!!
She jams, doesn't she???
Girl is bad!!!
And yes, "The Lottery" is/was PRIME.
Well, since you mentioned that one, and I guess . . .
Is the Holy Bible disqualified?
That is my all time favorite book.
I was blessed to be able to study it more than anything else in upper division English, as Literature, thanks to a very clever professor; it IS considered Literature, you know. I would not want to write a review on it, though. Well, I guess I could.
2. "The Invisible Man" by Ralph Ellison
3. "Paradise Lost" by John Milton. Again, that would be ONE helluva review. ROFL.
Nooooooooo thanks!
But those are my favorites. Lighter stuff.
4. "End Time Events" by Charles Capps
5. "The Bible Code" by Michael Drosnin
6. any of Stephen Crane's SHORT stories.
and of course,
7. ANYTHING AT ALL BY AGATHA CHRISTIE although I prefer her Miss Marple stories best.
