In 1965, I was about 17 years old. (Yes, that makes me 60 now. Deal with it; I do.)
That year Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and Eva Marie Saint were the famed actors of the film "The Sandpiper". Steaming hot with the love affair between a married man of the cloth and a free-spirited artist with an illegitimate son, the story unfolds along the magnificent Big Sur coastline.
Just a kid at the time, I was captured by the personality of Laura Reynolds, the role performed by Ms. Taylor. I identified with Laura. Independent. Strong willed. Defensive of my convictions. (I'm still the same.)
The Pacific Ocean is portrayed in true form; powerful and majestic. Scenes from Pfeifer Beach, Nepenthe', Monterey and the Bixby Bridge are real places. At the sweet age of 17, I never imagined that I would someday live here.
For the past several years I've searched (and waited) for this movie to be published in home-viewing medium. Nyet. Nada. Nope. Until now. Amazon has it. Pricey, but everything of heart's desires seems to be.
I watched it last night; quietly and alone with a great bottle of Chardonnay and the indulgence of sinful French brie. Very appropriate considering the forbidden love and passion that emanated from my television screen.
For those of you who recall the story, ask for the DVD at your local movie rental outlet ~ or get it at Amazon. And watch it with a glass of wine and some cheese.

Thank Boni, it will be a treat, wine and brie and grapes and chocolate sound like the perfect accompaniment.
