I had such a great experience that I thought I would share it with you Gatherites. It just proves that there are still caring doctors (or Physician's Assistants) out there. You just have to be really lucky to find them.
It wasn't that long ago that it was almost time for my yearly women's exam. I had decided last year that I was going to switch because I was using a regular Family Practioner, and I didn't like her. This year at the beginning of the month I began calling around and just happen to decide to go to this certain place. It really was the luck of the draw.
I went this morning very nervous as usual. The nurse that I had was very friendly towards me. She didn't act like she was in a real hurry, and we even chatted a bit about the fact that we are both short. It was refreshing. I did have to wait a bit in the room, but that's to be expected. It really wasn't that long.
Finally the Physician's Assistant came in (that's who I saw in the office today.) She was as friendly as could be. She had a great big smile on her face. She had a good firm handshake. She actually even READ my file! I had to fill out paperwork before I came because I was a new patient, and she READ it. It's amazing!
She asked about my concerns, and I told her. We got things straightened around. She acted like I was a real person. We joked and chatted about all kinds of things. She was very gentle and explained everything she was doing. It was a really great experience. I just hope that she's there next year when I have to go again!

I don't mind waiting in a room because I know it usually means that doctor is taking his/her time with another patient, and that probably means they will with me too instead of just rushing me out.
My doctor's office is like that; very calm and laid back. I've always been happy with them. HOWEVER, now that I found out they missed an important lab result LAST YEAR and would have missed it again THIS YEAR if I hadn't asked about it specifically, I'm a bit more concerned!
I got some lab results called yesterday and the only report they gave me initially was the least important one. I had to DRAG the results out of the nurse on the IMPORTANT issues.
You can color me NOT HAPPY right now.
I had a male gynecologist, oddly enough. One male for my first pregnancy, and a new male doctor for my second. They were both very kind, and not at all creepy. I always felt at ease with both of them.
Out of curiosity, was your appointment at a small or large clinic/hospital?

Glad you found such a caring practitioner.
Being a patient is a 360 degree experience.
And about the test results....that is a darn shame, but too often they have someone who just starts at the top of the pile and works their way down on the phone calls.
I may even start bringing in a stamped self addressed envelope, and ask them to send me a copy.
