Many years ago I came across a style of music that has since been my favorite - Celtic Rock/Punk/Etc. I fell in love with Seven Nations when I heard them play at the Stone Mountain Highland Games and began searching for more of their music and then branched into other bands.
Then, about 4 years ago I came across a group called Clann An Drumma. As I sat at the Grandfather Mountain Games, listening to their primtive dumbeats and haunting bagpipes, I observed people from all across the spectrum getting into this band. From white haired Frank Sinatra loving grannies to Native American toddlers whose parents had come back to the second show decked out in full ceremonial garb, everyone was moving and watching.
The band has since split up and the younger members have moved on to create Albannach. I wondered if they would still be able to capture that pure, gut wrenching spirit of the Scottish Highlands. Finally, about a month ago, I was able to see them play at the Renaissance Faire in Eminence, KY. They were sans Jamesie, one of the most electrifying members of the group. It was hot and sticky humid. And the audience was not familiar with them. But, I have to say Albannach still has it.
Once, I would scour the internet to find when Clann An Drumma would be playing at a venue I could attend. I will now be avidly watching for Albannach. I suggest you do the same.

you might also like Session A9 and Salsa Celtica. Also a group from Orkney called The Chair.
I want to take him to see them at a place where they'll be appreciated. The RenFaire that we just attended was not their greatest venue.
I've posted quite a few 'Scottish Music' articles here - but don't know how to show them as clickable links here - if you care to go to my page, you should be able to find articles on various musicians such as Capercaillie, Red Hot Chili Pipers (yes, I know CRAP name!) and many more.
