almanac image Walt Disney's favorite film opened in the U.S. at Radio City Music Hall on this day in 1942. "Bambi" had its premiere in London, even though Britain was in the midst of war. It received glowing reviews, but tepid box office receipts. However, it was re-released in 1947 and began recouping its costs. The American Film Institute ranks "Bambi" third in its top ten list of animated films.

Do you remember where you saw Bambi? I grew up in rural Susquehanna.. a small town on the Susquehanna River and there was a small movie theater.. i think this was the only movie they showed and then it burned down...
