Good morning! I'm here for a bit. I had some car trouble yesterday, so I'm a bit hesitant to go on the road trip I need to go on today. Have you figured out that I hate looking for a job? Especially when it requires driving at least two hours away.

KD, I can't imagine why anyone would want to drive 2 hours to a job. Gas and car repairs would get so expensive.

If I work in the town near where I live, I will make $50 per day and it is on an as needed basis as a substitute teacher. If I find a regular teaching job, I can make $36,000 per year. That is a HUGE pay difference... so for that, I can afford to drive further.

Good morning Dan. Lovely photographs. I've never driven 2 hours to a job, but I have driven over an hour (50 miles one way). I met someone at my college reunion who has a long (at least two hour) commute, but he only has to go to the office once or twice a week and works from home most of the time.

Oh, plus, I need to move. So, I would be moving as close to the job as I could without making my husband drive further to his. That can cut off about 30 minutes of drive time.

I seriously do not think that I will get a job this school year. There are many in my field that I have met during my last few semesters of school that are also still looking for work. Many are doing like I am and substituting until something comes open.

Sometimes we have to make sacrificies to get to where we want to be.

I have been involved with the local city schools as a volunteer and parent for thirteen years. I've substituted for them for about four years. I even continue to volunteer for them now. The school that I have participated the most on as far as committees and volunteering had one opening this year. You would think I would at least be allowed to interview for it. It went to someone with experience.

Can I understand that? Yes, I really can. I just want to teach. I substituted 3-5 days per week, volunteered some when not working or in class. I worked hard in school and received several honors. I'm proud of my accomplishments, but still feel that if I was good enough, I would have a job at times. That is when I have to remind myself that I am not alone. I personally know of 6-7 others looking for jobs in the same state I am.

Honestly Heather, yes I do think that we do set a lower priority for education. Learning is something that should never stop. Places such as Gather.com actually prove it to me in some ways. Yes there are some that post things that go way over my head. There are some that post things that I'm not interested in. But there are many that post informative posts that sometimes encourage me to look into the topic further. That is motivation to learn in a form that is not intimidating or date specific. I may find a post that someone posted months or years earlier that can spark my desire to learn. By saying we have to learn during these set hours, are we also saying that learning should not take place outside of those hours? Oh wait, isn't that why teachers assign homework? Because the students can not learn enough during just the hours of the school day?

My favorite way to pass the time when traveling drives the other travelers nuts. I turn the radio up and sing along. The rest of the folks in the car need ear plugs. I sing horribly!

Thank you all for being so nice to an old bossy woman this morning! I enjoy these morning chats. I will try to be in a better mood next time though. I'm going to hush now and go work on letters to take to schools. Then a trip to Walmart for more resume materials and back to get ready for a road trip tomorrow.

Yes, it actually took me that long to make up my mind this morning. I need to use that coffee pot sitting in my kitchen collecting dust.
