The Los Angeles city council passed a ban on any new fast food restaurant construction! Since when did making the choice where we eat become the governments business? This is another chip at the foundation of our God-given rights and freedoms.
If they want to do something useful, ban high fructose corn syrup as a drug which is probably worse health-wise than cocaine, and we have no choice in the matter, since it is in everything prepared we buy to eat. (I'm only half-serious on this one, since I really question prohibition of most anything and really don't want any more laws.)
"They" want to make you bow to "their" will,
Don't!!

Are we basically saying that poor people are ignorant and can't make their own choices. I was very poor in my early years, and WE WERE NOT stupid. Sorry about the emphasis.
In this particular case they simply put a moratorium on NEW fast food places. It doesn't reduce the options available, and it might not even be permanent. My home town decided many years ago to ban ANY fast food construction in the town. It did so with the overwhelming support of the community. To this day there is not a fast food store in the town, and everyone is happy. Especially all the local "regular" restuarants and bars. Anyone wanting fast food has simply to hop over to the next town and have their fill.
The side issue of banning smoking also has merits, though is somewhat of a different question so shouldn't be lumped in with this case in order to deflect the reality of the case at hand.
Thanks for posting to Political Futures
Fyi. poor people can't afford fast food, and never mind driving to another town to get it.
I get a big laugh out of the subway commercial, where the guy lost all that weight eating subway. We disreguard the fact that he walked to and from. I would also like to add, the time in my life that I was the thinnest. High school for lunch I walked 5 blocks to the grocery store to get a babyruth candy bar and a can of pepsi which I ate and drank on my walk back to school. I lost almost 20 lbs. and again after I had 4 kids I ate a whopper jr. with cheese one time a day before work and lost at least 20lbs. The common factor, I was very active.
Getting back on track. I agree with the frutose corn syrup, get rid of it and other processed sugars.
I believe that our food supply is highly contaminated starting at the level of growing and raising it. But that's another topic.
I don't believe in our government getting involved in our life styles either.
