Our "Memorable Moment at Dinner"!

One night early on in our relationship, my boyfriend John (now husband) and I had my parents over to my house for dinner.  My husband cooks for a living, so the pressure was on.  Our meal was wonderfully prepared, and we enjoyed a bottle of wine (or two) between courses.  My parents got to know John as he artfully prepared a salad he’d never eat but knew it would appeal to my mom (frou-frou baby greens, dried fruit, cheese, etc…), a perfectly roasted pork loin served with bread, since a meal is not a meal to my dad without bread, and potatoes, lots of potatoes (another nod to my father).  After clearing dinner dishes, we sat back down at the dining room table to play cards.  A couple of hands later, John offered to run to McDonald’s to get everyone hot fudge sundaes (he’s the first to admit he’s a cook, not a baker!).  My mom, dad and I remained seated at the table, visiting and looking out the large picture window at the snow falling on the driveway.  Hurrying, John hopped into my SUV in the garage, threw it in reverse, hit the gas….and slammed into my mom’s car, which was parked behind me in the driveway.  WHILE WE WATCHED!  I swear, he will never live this story down, nor will I ever forget the slightly confused look on my mom’s face as she processed what had just happened.  I told him that night he had to marry me or my parents would never forgive him.
