This is just ridiculous!!!

Apparently, the little 7 YEAR OLD girl who sang in the Opening ceremony for the Bejing Olympics was not PRETTY enough, prompting officials to place a "better looking" girl infront of the audience instead to lipsync.

Things like this make it easy for me to believe why more and more young girls grow up with self esteem issues, thinking they are "too fat," "not pretty enough" ect. This just annoys me!!!

It annoys me too, especially since I have an 11 yr old daughter. I want her to grow up happy and healty...and it's getting more difficult when stuff like this happens.

That's terrible! People come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Could you imagine if they tried to do that because they didn't like her color? Looks and size are 2 things society still thinks it's okay to discriminate against.

All little kids are cute at that age, there was nothing wrong with that little girl, only the creeps who rejected her.
That is stupid and ridulous...can you thimnk what that child is going through now? I hope her mother didn't actually expect her to sing so someone could lip sync her voice? That is just wrong.

What is ugly to one person is beautiful to another.......otherwise we wouldn't have so many people born in this world.

This is sick and so very sad. What is the world coming too? This makes me very angry. Daily I tell my boys how handsome they are. When I see my nieces and nephews I tell them how pretty or handsome they are. You cant tell them enough and no matter what, at least they know I think they are pretty or handsome.

I think we have an abnormal fixation on beauty and size. Young girls are considering cosmetic surgery, wearing make up at 10 or even younger and dieting to the extreme. Everyone is focusing on the skin deep issues. It's really sad, especially for young girls, because their value is measured by looks. All the good work of Betty Friedan and Gloria Steinem seems to be going down the drain. Just look at the garbage on television and in the movies and try to encourage any self esteem or acceptance in your children. It's just sick.

i heard about this on perezhilton.com ! that is so sickening.. & i agree.. girls are so insecure at such a younger age now.. it's soo crazy ! i work at a daycare & witness a lot of it first hand !

My husband was watching the olympics and I just went and told him about this. He said, "That's China for you."
That's just awful. I thought it was just this country that was obsessed with appearance, but I guess it's a worldwide problem. Shameful.

It is a shame that the world, not just China, is like that. The beauty is on the inside, but some don't look at it like that. Even kids are like that to other kids. Some are very attractive on the outside, but,,,,,,, very ugly on the inside. I rather be attractive on the inside.
