Trip to England - 2

We spent a week in Suffolk this summer in a gorgeous rented house.

My older brother and his wife brought their greyhounds along,

one of which went paddling in the moat,

while the rabbits stayed safely hidden in the fields.

This castle near the coast was beautiful, but way too expensive to go inside.

A slightly longer trip led to burial mounds where a Viking ship was found.

The coastline is changing quite rapidly. We didn't photograph the church that has disappeared, but we wandered on the beach - all pebbles, no sand.

And here we strolled along the pier in a typical seaside town

before returning for tea in the conservatory.

Imagine having tea in your conservatory?! What a lovely essay Sheila. That burial mound intrigues me. Does your brother live in England that his dogs were able to frolic on the terrace and in the moat of that lovely home? Or do they travel with him?

Yes, my husband and I live in the States with our three sons, but all the rest of the family is in England. We rented the house together with my mother and both my brothers so we could spend a while together as they all live in different parts of England.

I know you enjoyed your family reunion Sheila and what a lovely place to do it in, such beautiful homes and scenes, and I bet Mum was so happy to have her family all together in one spot. Going to do that this weekend, with my sons and some of their children, and Dexter's son who lives in Tiawan now with his wife and two children , one that I have never seen, born in May, will be lots of baby kissing going on. Lovely Essay Sheila.
Oh, how beautiful, Sheila. I thoroughly enjoyed this tour!

I do look forward to seeing England in the summer of 2009.

I think you travel as I do. Although I manage to spend some days in the tourist traps, I really enjoy the countryside and finding the hidden gems.

Wonderful photos, as a history buff I found the burial mounds and viking ship info so interesting. My ancestors sprung from the loins of these marauders, who conquered and held the UK in their possession for many years.

Fantastic digs. I imagine the dogs were happy. I love that fieldstone church. It looks like a church. It's great no one has bothered the Viking burial mounds. It looks like you had a splendid stay.

How wonderful that you could all spend some time in that rental house. I've always thought that would be a neat way to travel. You are more a part of the local scene when you are not in a hotel. I've stayed in some out of the way B and B's that were fun.
