If you are on a quest to build muscle mass and increase your strength, then you should be recording your weight training sessions in an exercise log sheet. In order to build muscle fast you need to continuously make improvements to your workout, so recording each session becomes a must.
What is My Exercise Log Sheet?
It is a blank weight training chart where you record each muscle building exercise that you perform in the gym. Against each exercise you add to the sheet you also record the number of reps and sets, plus the amount of weight that you lifted.
When you do your next body building workout you take your previously completed exercise log sheet and a new blank copy with you, so that you can try and improve on your previous gym workout achievements.
So how will logging my workouts benefit me?
A basic rule on how to build muscle is to increase the amount of weight that you lift in the gym every week or so. Unless you have a perfect memory, the only way you can lift more weight and increase the number of reps you did in your last training session is to record what you did last time.
By recording what you've done, the next time you do your workout you can reference your previous weight lifting program chart and try improve on it by adding slightly more weight and/or pushing out an extra rep or two.
Use your exercise log sheet with your bodybuilding program
If you download my exercise log sheet and use it in conjunction with your existing body building program then you will be able to track your progress over an extended period of time. I like to file each completed chart into a ring bind folder so I can easily review and check my progress a month or two into my program. This makes it easy to see my gains and also see where I need to put more effort in.
It's Motivational Too!
I use the notes section of the exercise log sheet to make motivational comments to encourage me to do better at the next training session. E.g. if I did 15 reps without breaking into a sweat when doing barbell curls with 35 kg, then I would put a comment like "increase barbell curls to 40 kg next session and aim for 12 reps".
Overall a blank weight lifting chart is there to give you the edge to help you train that little bit better and harder, which gives you a much better results in the way of building muscle mass and increasing strength.
