On July 11th, we got into the car and drove 5 hours to Cape May. Cape May is at the bottom tip of NJ. Just over some water from DE.
When we got there, we hit the Visitor Center to find out the 2 locations we wanted to head to. We found the Cape May Lighthouse and State Park. We got on our sneakers and started down one of the shorter trails. We are not experienced hikers and don't do it all that often.
We saw a lot of birds, flowers, and marsh animals. I also caught a few interesting mushrooms. I always seem to find mushrooms and have to take a picture of them. My family was joking me about it.
Here are a couple of mushrooms I found on that trail:

We had a great time walking that trail. Every turn we took we saw something else - a flower, a shrub, a marsh, some lily pads, birds, and small animals.
The weather was perfect. It was quite hot but because we were on the shore, we didn't feel it. Hurricane Bertha was in the Atlantic near Bermuda and the waves were really high and dangerous because of it.
Here are a few other things we saw:
A swan along the trail
Red Flowers along the route:

Steve and Trevor along the trail:

The Dunes at Ca
pe May:
Purple flowers along the route:

It was a really nice trail. Short and not hectic. A great beginning to our road trip.
At 4:30 we took the ferry across to Lewes, DE and then drove to Ocean City, MD to continue our road trip.

I hope you took some of the lovely houses in Cape May!
They too are "grand old ladies"!
