Please give me some examples:
- Major bills that Senator Obama has sponsored.
- Instances where Senator Obama has worked with Republicans to pass important legislation.
- Instances where Senator Obama has bucked his own party to pass a bill that he believed in.
Please be specific. If possible, give me a URL to the legislation and discuss Senator Obama’s role in getting it passed. I would prefer examples from the US Senate. At Senator Obama’s website I only find one reference to a specific US Senate bill.*
If you must cite instances in the Illinois Senate please give me some reference so I can check out the details.
Obama supporters on Gather and elsewhere speak of Obama’s abilities as a leader and Senator Obama portrays himself as someone willing to work with Republicans and Democrats.
I just need to see some examples.
*The Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006 (S. 2590) which the website says “was passed with Republican Tom Coburn”. The bill was introduced by Senators Obama and Coburn, along with Senators Tom Carper and John McCain. There were an additional 43 cosponsors and the bill passed the Senate unanimously.

cant wait to see some answers!
Introduced by Senators Barack Obama and Claire McCaskill
The bill provides job protection for up to one year for family member caring for a service member with combat related injuries.
Summary of S.1885
I'll come back and give you some more later if no one else does. Right now my ice cream is melting.

Better to have offered retraining or preferrence in Civil Service jobs.
Small businesses and even large ones can't and won't operate around rules like this.
Any person can be fired at any time. A company can find an excuse.
So this bill was a waste of time and further proof that Obama is out of touch with the real America.
By this reasoning then you would also feel that National Gaurdsmens' jobs should not be protected and waiting for them when they return?
"Dignity for Wounded Warriors Act of 2007 - Requires each recovering servicemember who is assigned to a military barracks or dormitory to be assigned to one that is maintained at the highest service standard in effect for enlisted members of the Armed Forces. Requires at least semiannual inspections of, and appropriate repairs to, any such quarters, as well as alternate housing during periods of unremedied housing deficiencies.
Outlines requirements to be implemented for recovering servicemembers and their families, including: (1) physical disability evaluation system changes; (2) supervising officer and caseworker support; (3) increased training for caseworkers and social workers on particular servicemember conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); (4) increased support services, including an Ombudsman for Recovering Servicemembers; (5) a prohibition on discrimination in employment of family members caring for such servicemembers; and (6) meal benefits for recovering servicemembers and family members caring for such servicemembers.
Establishes the Oversight Board for the Wounded.
This was co-sponsored by 23 other senators. Senator McCain was not one of them.

S.713
Do you think its wrong that your job is protected while you serve jury duty?
Perhaps someone thinks that if the military sends your child or spouse back to you in pieces than you should at least have some breathing room while you arrange for their care.
I just found a very useful URL from The Library of Congress. I haven't yet researched any of the entries.
Thanks Kay
Interesting Website. Need to check it out.
Thanks for the reference. If I am reading The Library of Congress website correctily the
Military Family Job Protection Act, which had 10 Democratic co-sponsors, died in the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions committee, which is chaired by Edward Kennedy. Do you have any insight as to why?
Why did the Dignity for Wounded Warriors Act of 2007 die in the Senate Armed Services Committee, chaired by Democratic Senator Carl Levin? Were any of the 23 co-sponsors Republicans?
The best cite I have found is at the Washington Post. They have a complete voting record for each candidate including: bills they voted for and against; bills voted with or against the party line; a brief description of the bill and it's contents (there are links to more information) and whether there was actually a vote by the candidate or whether the candidate was absent. It's a good quick reference but I don't know if it notes bill sponsorship.
I can't really tell you how I got there directly other than Google The Washington Post and follow the directions. Maybe later this evening, I can go back there and give you more specific info later.
It became a companion piece for the bill Levin introduced and by the time house and senate were done, the newly titled Dignified Treatment of Wounded Warriors act was part of the appropriations bill vetoed by the president in December of 07
Thanks. Unless you follow these things very closely it is often difficult to figure out what happened.
The congressional website does not show Military Family Job Protection Act s1885 passing in the Senate?
