I was offer to review this collections of short fantasy stories. I happily took it.
The word that comes to mind is sparse. This is a complement, not a criticism. Roger Delaney‘s fantasy series Amber is sparsely written, too. (And really fantastic.) Most fantasies are extremely wordy. (I am sure you have all heard of the term doorstoppers when describing the large fantasy novels that are out there.) Hers are easy, quick readings of interesting fantasies.
These short stories can be read at one sitting if you like. The first three stories are about a up coming novel Song of the Wind and Sea. (It might be the world she has created for her readers.) Song Rise is good, and Kinsharra is interesting, although Advent is a little too sparse for my likening. (Needs a little more meat on it.)
Then a couple stories with a new take on Camelot, a few stories of the undead, and a old gods fantasy.
Overall, she is an up-and-coming writer to watch. This book is for people who like fantasy but not a lot of time to read. Also a book for teens who want to read fantasy.
