There has been a lot of talk about gaffes - things the candidates say that get them into trouble. And given the long campaign season (over 1-1/2 years) there have been plenty of opportunities for "misspeaking." So I thought I'd get a feel for how often the two major party candidates gaffe. This one is for John McCain. In the interest of being fair and balanced, please visit my companion offering on Barack Obama.
So, list as many gaffes by John McCain as you can. Please use direct quotes if you can (let's stick to the facts) and if it's not obvious, explain why you think its a gaffe.

Top on my list is Insulting his wife in the crudest terms possible and doing it within hearing of others. It reveals something about the man's character that the other gaffes do not.
I don't have the direct quote, but if I did and listed it, I would have to flag the article. Suffice to say he used the F-word and the C-word in that order and it also contained references to spending a lot of time in front of a mirror putting on her make-up.
There are a couple of others that exhibit a lack of respect for women, but will wait to see if someone else was as offended by them as I was.
Actually, I had forgotten about that one, and I thank you for not spelling it out. I try to keep my posts readable by all who may wander through.

He led a congressional delegation through the Shorja market the weekend before last, with 100 heavily armed U.S. troops guarding the group and attack helicopters and snipers watching over them.
2. The Pakistan/Iraq border gaffe
3. He's against drilling/he for it
4. He's for choice/against/for/against--at this date
5. He's against Chimpy's tax cuts/now he for them
6. He calls Falwell & Robert$on agents of intolerance, now he's best buddies with christian reich
7. He wants war, but votes against veteran's benefits--or doesn't vote at all
8. He votes against raising the minimum wage and worker's rights/benefits
9. he talks about how much he's done for civil rights, but consistently voted and spoke out against MLK holiday.
10. He has consistently voted against birth control being paid for by insurance.
11. He made a joke about union workers--a guy had surgery to remove his testes and boss said he could start work 2 hours later cuz all the workers did was "scratch their balls" for the first 2 hours anyway.
12. Although 1st wife waited for him while he was a POW, he dropped her like a hot potato when he found his sugar-zombie.
And I haven't even checked any sources, scoured the internet, etc. and I tried not to use some of the others already mentioned.
McCain: There are numerous threats to security in Iraq and the future of Iraq. Do you still view Al Qaeda in Iraq as a major threat?
Petraeus: It is still a major threat, though it is certainly not as major a threat as it was say 15 months ago.
McCain: Certainly not an obscure sect of the Shiites overall?
Petraeus: No, no sir.
McCain: Or Sunnis or anybody else then? Al Qaeda continues to try to assert themselves in Mosul, is that correct?
Petraeus: It is senator...
Al-Qaeda in Iraq is Sunni. So -- not an obscure sect of Shiites, no.
Aides to McCain said perhaps he could have been clearer in comments he made to the San Francisco Chronicle and CNN, but that he had not wavered from his long-term opposition to abortion or his belief that Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion, should be repealed.
"I'd love to see a point where it is irrelevant, and could be repealed because abortion is no longer necessary," McCain told the Chronicle in an article published Friday. "But certainly in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade, which would then force X number of women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangerous operations."
On Sunday, on CNN's "Late Edition," McCain reiterated that he would not have an abortion "litmus" test for a running mate or Supreme Court nominees. He added that while he ultimately favors repeal of Roe, "we all know, and it's obvious, that if we repeal Roe v. Wade tomorrow, thousands of young American women would be performing illegal and dangerous operations."

I notice that on both lists there are a good number of "I'm way too tired from the constant campaigning" variety of misspeaks. I never pay much attention to these. They are inevitable because both candidates are, in fact, human (surprise). Most of these are just silly, yet thse are the things people focus on.
The "two ads in the can" thing is simply deceitful. As are many of their other main focal points for the campaign. These are bothersome and show a lack of integrity.
