New Kids on the Block – Err, not so new and not so much "kids"

I think it might be ok to admit now – I used to love New Kids On the Block (or as I like to call them, Donnie, Joey, Jordan, and those other two dudes). I had the trading cards, the towels, and I used to fight with my friend about which one of us could have Donnie Walhberg as our favorite. (Yeah, I loved the bad boys in grade school.)

This is my favorite New Kids song from back in the day when mullets and rats tails were the style:

 

Now in 2008, the New Kids are back! I'm happy for their success, but this "Summertime" video is too much for me. They look great and the song is catchy, but I'd expect a more sophisticated video from them at this point. I would have expected this from Back Street Boys, circa 1999.

 

Is anyone feelin' it?

By the way, the New Kids are back on tour this fall and guess who's opening some of their shows? The Funky Bunch...sans Mark Walhberg.

the video for "summertime" is just lame! they are too old to be doing such poppy boy band stuff!

Any time a music video starts with a text message reading "It's on" you know they've run out of good ideas.

I actually have to defend Hanson. I hated their music, but it was fairly impressive that a bunch of little kids were able to play their own instruments and write their own songs, especially considering all of the boy bands around at the time who did neither.
