Going to the Salon: Talking

Hey everyone.  This applies to women as well as men.  When you are getting your hair cut or your nails done, am I the only one, or does it really bother you when the hairdresser/nail tech/masseus talks to you the whole time?  I mean, I'm not antisocial or anything.  It's just that when I get something like this done, it's relaxation time...  I don't want to talk about what my husband does for a living, where I went on vacation, who the most handsome actor is, etc...  Ugh!  Stop talking to me!  I won't be rude to you...  In fact, I'm a very nice girl!  It's just that I don't feel like talking when I'm being pampered!

 

Oh.  And doesn't it just feel DIVINE when the hairdresser washes your hair!  Aaaaaah!  Heaven!

I see where your coming from. Being pampered is nice and relaxing :) When I was younger or I go to a different salon, I usually don't talk. But, where I almost always get my hair done I talk a lot since I've known her since I was a little girl.

I am the opposite, the 2nd to last time I got my haircut the lady didnt say a thing the whole time. It kinda weirded me out.

Last night was a happy mix. she was really good with DD and asking her the right questions to keep her occupied so she didnt move during her trim.

When I get my hair cut I really can't relax, because most of the time my daughter is with me to get her's cut as well. So I'm trying to keep an eye on her as well. But yes I agree I love having my hair wash, or brushed, or any of that. Which makes it nice when my daughter wants to play beauty parlor!

No I definitely hear you on this one! I always thought I was the only person who hated it, because I'd look around and everyone else was happy to be chatting away...I hate small talk in general though so maybe that's it.

I like small talk. I don't like it when my "girl" is talking to another beautician or even on her cell phone (both of which have happened to me before--I immediately switched hairdressers).

Sometimes I'm not in a chatty mood and it bothers me, but most of the time I like it since I've gone to the same hair stylist for years.

I think it depends on the person. Hairdressers, in my experience, tend to be social animals.

I can see where you're coming from, but I'm just the opposite. As a matter of fact, I got my hair done today and found out the girl that was cutting my hair came from the same neighborhood that I did when I went to high school 30 years ago, and I graduated with her her -- this is 100 miles north of where we are both living now. So, we grew up in the same neighborhood, and both moved 100 miles south to the same town again in almost the same year -- and now she's cutting my hair -- I don't believe in coincidences -- there's a reason I met this woman again -- her kids are the same age as mine, and one graduated with mine! -- what's the odds? I had a blast talking to her!

I will say one thing --- and this may sound strange, but I don't care -- I don't like it when I'm in a store, or at a garage sale, or a flea market and I am looking at something, and they try to sell it to me. They offer little bits of information about it. That's when I don't want to talk, I just want to concentrate on the goods. I don't like to be "sold to", kwim?
