Self Publishing is sometimes called a "Vanity Press". I hate that word. It sounds rude. It sounds like name calling. Why call somebody who self publishes "vain"?
Everybody knows I'm more vain than anybody and I'm published with Stone Garden Publishing. So if anything, Stone Garden could be called Thee Vain Place just because I'm there trying to outdo Joan Crawford pushing Pepsi to the entire Planet.
But Stone Garden is not called Thee Vain Place even with me there, being almost as loud as Joan Crawford's lipstick, not even then.
They are a small publisher, and they use POD (Print On Demand) like all small publishers do to produce books only when there is an order for them. The publisher only accepts those titles that he wants to publish, publishes only three titles a month. And authors don't put any money into it. The publisher is the only one who forks out money.
And that's probably the very biggest difference between self publishing and not ... who pays the cover art, editing and set up fees at the printer.
And read my novels out now, Hollywood Sinners and The Joan Crawford Murders. Because they are exciting. When the publisher accepted them, he said, "It really grabbed me." And he isn't even a Joan Crawford fan. It's all just exciting, anyway.

Bossing all the men around.

Joan wrote books about Joan Crawford, too !!!

MORE lipstick, please

Read it or else you won't know what it's about.

"Read it or else you won't know what it's about" - great tagline, Peter! I think you've got me hooked!
I like the idea of women bossing men
Wow, that was a serious comment. I must be slipping. QUICK! MORE CAKE!!
I have also been meaning to applaud you on your amazing job of self promotion. I admire your skill at getting the word out about your books in such clever and witty ways. My degree is in advertising/Public Relations and I have seen few promotions that I enjoy as much as yours.
You are so talented and funny, I just know I would love you if I ever had the opportunity to meet you.
Publishing and of course about your books you have written
but I must tell you I am not one that reads about murders at
all. So sorry young man as I would love to support your work.
Hugs, Barbie
People who are interested in self-publishing,small presses, and regular publishing should check out thINKplaza, one of the directories I work on (but I don't get paid for sending people to it.) It's at http://thinkplaza.boomja.com, and it's got a lot of information and resources for publishing.
