What is your opinion on humans that desert their pets????

it does seem that they could do something for their pets besides leaving them unattended
No reason to be cruel to a fellow creature

This is a shame. I feel so sorry for these abused animals. Things are getting so bad just feeding the family is getting harder everyday. Pets are an extra expense. When I went to the animal rescue with Lynn I saw just how many there are out there.

Anyone who would do that to their pet does not value life. It's disgusting. Both my cats are former strays and very happy in the home they now have.

This is terrible. I could never leave my pets like that. Worst case, I would find them a home if I couldn't afford to take care of them.

It breaks my heart to hear this. My pets are part of my family. They are a commitment like any other. When you take on another life, you should be committed to the care of that life. Irresponsible just doesn't seem to be a harsh enough word.

Talouse is a member of my family. I would or could never leave him. He would be living at my moms with us.

Also there are so many places giving free pet food away, I havent had to buy Talouse food for 3 months. I found a new Iams one. I wrote an article last night about it...check it out for a free 4 weeks supply!

I don't get it. Our pets are family too. Now, I have taken in strays and relocated them a couple of times, but it was never abandoning them! I grew up where there was an SPCA or Humane Society nearby. When I lived in Miami and took in my first stray I was shocked that no one around there had even heard of SPCA -- are you kidding me?? I had to search high and low for a place that would help the dog, and got an earful for bothering to get involved most places I called. Sad.

It's sad that this is happening. Animals are living creatures, they have feelings too and I would never leave my cat like that, I'd look for somewhere he could come too. If I couldn't find a place, I'd make sure he was able to find a good home. I know where I live there are shelters for cats, and one woman even owns a giant farm where cats who were abandoned can be cared for and adopted.

I am an animal lover, and don't understand the mentality either. Most of these people who leave there pets behind are low lives in my book. They look at pets as objects, not living breathing beings. It's so sad, pets depend on you for everything, and live to please. If you can't afford the animal, take it to a shelter, something...I could go on forever with this subject.

I get upset when I see an animal in a cage at the pet store or one that is chained outdoors. You shouldn't have pets if you can't make the commitment to take care of them. I know some people like that with children, also. It's terrible.

My pets are FAMILY! Anyone who would abuse or desert an animal is a piece of trash!

They are absolutely dispicable in my book.
Animals are part of our family and are treated as such.
I know we can't, but I'd suggest locking them up in the same conditions and let them know no one cares what happens to them. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, what do we do?
There has to be a way to help. If you know of one, let me know.

That's so sad. I would hope that people would have more compassion than that. Times are tough and I'm sure the people who are losing their homes probably couldn't afford the pets anymore either....but they should give them to a shelter or another family who could care for them instead of leaving them to die.

Recently I was looking at the cats offered for adoption at PetSmart. The note on one cat's cage said it had been locked in a foreclosed house for 30 days before being rescued!!!
Another cat had also been locked in an abandoned foreclosed house for an unknown period of time. Another cat had been thrown out pregnant and had given birth to its kittens under a porch along a busy highway. Its terrible how some people treat animals. And some people get pets and then get rid of them and then get more pets, and do that over and over. When pets come to my house, they have a forever home. I don't keep trading them in for different ones!

This is just disturbing. I don't know how people can just abandon an animal.

I just seen this on a World News a few weeks back. It is sad and disturbing, that people are doing this to there fmaily pets. Its sick to think about. I think they need stronger laws on people that are doing these things and start following through with them.

I cannot imagine letting any of my pets go anywhere, let alone leave them behind in a locked house - how horrible for those animals. To think that your owner is going to come back, try not to mess on the floor, running out of food...then water - that is just so sad & makes me very upset.

I agree there are better ways to handle it....

I just don't know how this could happen. How people could do this kind of thing. My fear is that I'll be in a car accident and no one will know my animals are in the house and the door is locked. I could never do it on purpose.

There is no way I could do this to my pets. My cat is far cooler(and more well behaved) than a fair amount of my extended family. I really think there should be a law similar to child endangerment to punish people for doing stuff like that.

You already know how I feel about it sis! Anyone that could be this cruel and worse to an animal would do the same to a human if they could get away with it! They aren't worth much as far as I am concerned.

I appreciate that all of you have beautiful hearts concerning animals. I certainly wish more people were like us. Too bad those other people cannot be owned by a pet, and treated the way they treat them. It makes me ill.

A few years back my nephew, who was a minister, married and at the time, was the father to three beautiful children went to the local pet adoption agency and picked out a pet with his children and filled out the papers for the adoption. He was turned down. Simply because he had too many children and not enough income. At the time, I thought that was pretty stupid but after watching Animal Planet and seeing some of the pets that have been deserted or mistreated I had a change of heart. Maybe all pet placement agencies should be as stringent. At least pets would be placed in homes that would take proper care of them. I say that with a "maybe". There's no way you can weed every single pet abuser.

We had two dogs that were strays and we had them for approximately fourteen years. They died of old age. That was heartbreaking. We then got another dog, a beagle, and we love her to pieces, and would never, ever mistreat her.

No I don't understand the mentality of people who mistreat their pets. These people should pay dearly for their actions.

Animals give us such loyalty and look what they get in return.I also think of my animals as my kids and I am not going to throw them away just because things are tough.They deserve better than that! Thanks for letting me vent!

I don't understand how anyone could do this to a pet that was, supposedly, loved at one time!!! It's heartless!!! I could never do this to my furbabies because they've become a part of my family and I love them very much!!!

There are definitely different options available to people, but they have to be willing to DO IT. Maybe people are just lazy in general. I wouldn't be able to go off and leave my pets...even if it was just a goldfish.

It makes me just furious and very upset that any human being could be so heartless and just abandon pets........I cannot express my total anger here.....pets are helpless and depend on us human beings to love, cherish and take care of them.........for people to be so heartless is just despicable. Our pets are, and have always been, a very significant part of our family.......we could never live without them, and I cannot imagine abandoning them, even though there are times they are totally frustrating. If people treat animals like this, they should have never had pets in the first place.
