Im not a Fan of McCain
Sometimes he can be a pain
It's not because of his age
Or that I hear about his rage
It's mostly that he's dull and uninspired
An acting coach he should have hired.
Alas Obama isn't any better
In spite of being a go getter
He glorifies in his "I want change"
But his lack of experience is why I complain
I think the sharks in DC
Would have him for lunch easily
I read their bits and hear their rehtoric
But find neither of them to be fit
For my ideal of a leader of the USA
For someone else I often pray
But that's not going to happen at this late date
So one of them will be our fate.
I can't even make this stupid thing rhyme
which is something I can do all the time.
They got me in a quandry I confess
both of them will leave us in a mess
But it's Congress that's really is to blame
For not making changes and that's a shame
So now I'm in this awful state
McAin or Obam, which is our fate?
Can anyone give me one good reason
To vote for either this election season?
If push comes to shove and I must select
It's the one with experience I'll probably elect.
Sorry about the bad prose. Hope you'll comment anyway.

It is observable that most of "us" are dottering ... and some of "us" are just a bit 'older' than others.
Summarizing, these are "dottering times" ...
AND I think Mary Bradley McCauley captured the majority of our 'dots' in her politically inspiring Poetic rambling; I say: "GO MARY" ... GO ... GO ... GO ...!
It's now time for me to 'dotter' off to my nap!

By not voting we leave it up to those who have a different agenda than we,
I may not agree with your choice but it is yours,
I can't see electing a man who would lam bast a fourteen year old girl for asking a question,
But he not only did but kept attacking her like she was the devil incarnate,
So I can't vote for one who can't keep from trying to destroy a child,
My vote goes to one who at least has a vision for this country and not another clone of Bush,
Is my opinion as you have yours...
Have a great day,
:O)
Even though, at times, you may not know it,
But to the eye, your very feet do show it,
For they are Longfellow’s.
I fear there's no hope for you
One is a brilliant young man
the other a dottering old fool
I think Robert E. LEE, would have been an excellent president. I guess not many know, the truth about the "real" Robert E. LEE.
HIGHER TAXES AND RIP-OFF SCHEMES= OBAMA
uninspiring =MCCAIN
I find it fascinating that an intelligent, erudite, successful man can fill Americans with PURE TERROR and FEAR! Really. If this type of person scares you, you really do need psychological assistance.
as I always say, you pick your candidate from the gut and then come up with "evidence" to support your decision.
Good Article Mary . . .
(again and again),
Dumped his wife,
got richer kin.
Called his wife a c*nt,
he must love her,
'cause he didn't
choose to club her.
Opposes torture,
(not any more),
Opposes Bush,
Oh WAIT!
He's FOR!
Sealed his records,
'cause he's a straight talker,
Corporate Boards,
in the campaign locker.
Save Big bizness,
watch the middle class fail,
watch the medical worsen,
while the people wail.
Bury some more soldiers.
Bury uninsured,
Bury any pride that's left
and vote for that old turd.
Now which of the two candidates seems as if he is the more capable, more intelligent, more accomplished? Which of the two would sacrifice himself and the nation for his ideology? Which seems to have come the furthest and grown the most?
Since there is not one thing in this man's history or persona that a rational person would consider "scary", I think there's only one reason a person would choose a war-mongering man with PTSD and no control over his hot temper over him.
That you fear change
McCain's change comes too
It is clear
One is for progress
The other not
I think I'm for Obama's lot
For these 8 years
Fears are exploited
And now McCain
Says he will sort it
The war to win
Economy flounders
While folks like you sit by and ponder
What do you fear?
The smart? the dark?
Is not McCain worse than a shark?
With teeth that grin while he does lie
While soldiers battle and wives cry
The country's fate in our hands be
Let's hope we vote for Liberty
Obama is the man of Hope
So vote for him
Don't be a dope!
When everyone knew their place
Good people segregated by race
How funny that for him you yearn
The more time passes the more we learn
O' Rutherford no income taxes!
No gays, no women's lib or evil axis
Hey Millard Fillmore that's a man
All boys with guns play
Where's the clan?
The good o'l days are dead and burried
The good o'l boys are running, scarry
It's been a new day for while
Too bad it's not GOP style.
Thanks You.

from former allies is arrogant?
What about unilaterally offering
OUR countries support for
100 years to a country we destroyed,
one that wants us OUT, not there
for 100 years more?
Calling for tracking down the REAL terrorists

not detroying Iraq to divert small minded peoples

No candidate is perfect (not if they are human),
but I'll take the one who has not had a
track record of lies, deceit, and anger.
That to me sounds like danger!

He already gets full socialistic medical care.
He will get a full pension from the Senate.

He certainly doesn't speak for the

He speaks for those who sit on their big fat A**es!

The WRONG WAY!
Great idea, destroying our nation, killing even more innocent people, more money for the wealthy and the corporations . . . THAT'LL show him for his arrogance.
He's highly intelligent.
A great communicator,
He's sophisticated.
He's a great listener.
He's got the right kind of experience.
He's running for the right reasons. (If anyone has had their eye on the Presidency as a career move, it's McCain).
He has the ability to inspire our young.
He's reasonable, and discerning.
It's touted that Obama is risky. Oh really? How risky is it to go with a vote for a man who is known for the good qualities listed above?
I say it's risky to remain on a path that has proven to be very bad for us.
McCain, is the risky one.
You repugnicons are so lame.
Barely graduating ~ at the bottom of his class.
Abusing women.
Flaring into uncontrollable rage at the drop of a hat.
Not being able to put together complete sentences.
Failing geography.
My support goes to Barack Obama. A self-made family man. Well spoken. Intelligent. Willing to admit when he's made a mistake. Experience? How many past presidents had presidential "experience" before they were elected? (The FIRST time!) Clear ideas.
I'm proudest of Obama that he has the "audacity" to sit down with foreign leaders and "enemies" and have a grown-up conversation with them.
We'll all have our own decision made by November. I have mine.

Sorry that I did offend
I'll try my fences now to mend
It was dear Harry covets Lee
His house? his horse? his history?
A great man does not home betray
It is the same I fear today
That 'good men' patriots they say
Put party first to our dismay
While other men who do not pander they now defame and calmly slander
It is to their shame and history's lot
Their cause forgotten their fame for naught.
O Harry
Lee was brave and reckless, yes
As good as Bush I'm sure to bet
The South did fall and fail back then
Our country now needs no such men.
And one could ask why didn't slavery make the other slaving countries rich?
The President of the United States is called the leader of the free world - he must act like it. Our President has done a world of good for us; unfortunately, the Congress and the liberal media has seen to it that the American people think otherwise. Time will tell. I think McCain will make a fine President.
Anyway, a good and clever poem, Mary, and I have found myself in the same situation. I will say, though, that after visiting factcheck.com, I know which candidate is putting out more fraudulent info about his opponent. Makes me want to vote for his opponent.
I think I'm with Harry on this one; can we please draft my favorite Pres. of all time, Millard Fillmore?
I find McCain is more liberal as I am while Obama if far more liberal than I but I think he has done some switching to become more moderate. Look at his change of heart about drilling for oil.
So many things I don't like about McCain--so many things I'm not happy about with Obama. Many the choice of VP will help me.
Thanks everyone for commenting and stirring the pot.
every empire from Egypt to Rome to Britain benefitted from slavery....cheap/free labor built everything you see in Europe and most of pre 1865 America as well.
Your a nice lady Mary.
Great poem, Mary. Stay true to what's in your heart.

Am enjoying the fact that I don't have the same doubts re Obama. McCain and the GOP have made my choice easier to make.
was really the line of one man
talk of the change you want to see
is how the other ends up damned
Obama's lack of experience showed at the Saddlebrook forum. He stuttered, hemmed and haweed and finally when he couldn't think of a decent answer, one that he thought would please everyone, he retorted, "above my paygrade".
Ann he's a good man but if he gets in now, he will be destroyed by Congress--they will eat him alive. If you have watched politics at all, you've got to know that.
As for Congress, with McCain in the White House nothing will get done, as is evidenced by the last two years. Many bills were passed in the House but couldn't get through the Senate because of the 60 vote rule to even debate a bill. Also, your contention that Obama would be eaten alive by Congress doesn't make any sense. First of all, Congress will be controlled by the Democrats so there would likely be at least a little overlap in their priorities, don't you think? Also, any serious observor of Obama will see that he is constantly being underestimated (I'll leave you to figure out why). And yet here he is...the nominee and in the lead in the polls despite having to face 10 better known Democratic challengers (including the "invevitable" one who was best known of all) and then being the guy definitely not from the standard mold in so many ways fighting our natural resistance to change.
Win or lose, Obama will change politics in Washington. And after working in Washington DC for the last 16 years and having met some of the people he is facing, we sorely need change.
Wait, if he becomes president when he has to confront Putin. Oh yes, the two of them will sit down and sip tea and Putin will acquiesce to anything Obama asks him. And when he has to face confrontation from those who hate us even more than Putin, well, invite them for a tete a tete and we'll all leave our weapons at home.
I admire Obama but think he could serve his purpose on earth better working as he had in Chicago before visions of political glory entered his head.
I am not voting for a man who tells jokes about a woman beign raped by an ape and enjoying it.McCain
If you want to read a good commentary about McCain by an excellent journalist , read my post.
This man has a bad character and it will bring shame to the country if he is elected.
Just look how he voted for the military, who by the way, are supporting Obama.
The qualities of a leader can be recognized already in his ability to inspire and move people to organize and support him.
He may be well mannered but he is not a softy as you imply.
The problem here is that we are so used to the warmongers in Washington we forget we had a failed foreign policy for over 10 years brought by their policies.
lea, give him 5 or 10 years, then let him run, but not now. And no, I am not a McCain fan, I don't want a war monger, and yes, I wish there were someone else but not Obama. iwant him back in Chicago working for the underprivileged, not in the White House. At least not now.
I vote for an intelligent man anytime and hard working coming from a midlle class family like me.
Not voting for another rich, spoiled womanizer like McCain.
My husband was in the Navy for 30 years, reired as a commander and I travelled with him and have seen his type, screwing around on their wives and drinking all night.
I vote character and abilities, especially thinking ability and Mccain has none, everything he says has to be managed or he ends up talking like Bush.
Do yourself a favor and go look at all the gaffes he has made so far, serious ones.
I am 60 years old, and have been around Washington, my husband was with the Chief of Staff at the Pentagon.
I know this people well enough and McCain is not one of my favorites.
Clearly you haven't been paying attention. The facts belie that he is naive or that his campaign is naive.
Choosing not to be dragged through the mud and sling it back is not naivite, it is being an adult. It is trying hard to bring about real change in this country. To capture it back from the Rovians who have kidnapped it.
This is not about winning the election. It's about changing the dynamic in Washington. He has already done that, in part by inspiring people like me to become involved after having no involvement other than voting in the past.
We absolutely need Obama in the White House after the disaster of the last 8 years. Most of the US and virtually all of the world admits that George W. Bush has been a terrible President and his Administration has single-handedly taken a once great nation - a nation entirely unified after 9/11 - and turned it into a nation that no one respects, with no influence here or at home, that others consider to more of a threat to the world than Russia, China and Iran. This is the Bush legacy. And McCain promises to continue the carnage.
No, Obama isn't naive at all. And neither am I.
Again, actually no. People are falling for the same things they always fall for. It's really quite embarrassing.
"people are realizing that he has no substance."
No, people aren't paying attention. Look at the recent religious forum. McCain gave short, talking point answers in front of a friendly crowd; answers that were spun as "decisive." Actually, they were short because most of them were without any substance at all. Conversely, Obama gave longer, more nuanced answers in front of a crowd less predisposed to like him. And he won some of them over. But his was spun as too cerebral and too complicated for the public to assimilate. To this I would ask which of these men has more substance? You cannot make a plausible argument that McCain has more substance than Obama, in fact, you would be hard pressed to say it with a straight face. Does McCain have more experience in Washington than Obama - absolutely. Did he learn from that experience - sort of. He learned to toss away any semblance of his maverick mythology and hook up with the very people who trashed him 8 years ago, the very people he claims to want to change. He has adopted their "repeat it over and over even if it isn't true and people start to believe it because they hear it over and over so it must be true" tactics. It's purposeful and it's manipulative. And it has worked.
Obama may have way too much depth for the American public right now, but to say he is without substance is to lose all semblance of credibility.
I'm sure you are wiser than I even though I'm older.
I do hope you read my article enough to know I am not a fan of McCain and I have praised Obama's goodness.
Bush had experience? Maybe but had not judgement.
Maybe you can try to define experiece to yourself.
Neither Roosevelt or Lincoln had any experience....in being a president or governing.
Obama's Half Brother Lives in Poverty
Then after what the Russians have done this past weeke, especially today, I don't think Obama's let's talk about it will work. Russia and Iran are not two nations to sit around and chat.
I really do follow Teddy Roosevelt's thoughts. "Speak softly and carry a BIG stick!"
You might remember the cold war but being 71, I think I have more memories of another country that would not have been appeased by chit chatting.
Thanks for contributing to this discussion lea--you do have some interesting views. Unfortunately, I can't agree with them. Sorry. And believe it or not, I am a liberal. As a matter of fact some of my family have called me a 'flaming liberal', others a 'closet liberal'. I even took those who should your candidate be. I came up with Edwards--YIKES!!!!! Took it again and got Richardson--not quite as bad. I could possibly go for him. I was expecting Obama to pick him for VP after what he did to the Clinton's.
Whatever happens, we all need to pray for our country, our troops and our children.
