Secret admission: I admire people with the skills and guts to write a song. It isn't easy and it is 180 degrees from guarded.
When I'm not cranking my poor computer speakers...
Amplified Heart from Everything But The GirlI sort of think EBTG fans have that "Rubber Soul" vs. "Revolver" argument over EBTG's "Walking Wounded" and "Tempermental" but maybe that's just my experience! At any rate, we don't crack open Amplified Heart much, but when we do I sigh a little and just listen. They really write songs that open like good letters.
Secret admission: Hope that isn't what their home life is really like, because there are a lot of feeeeeeelings.
Klassic With A K from KostarsSometimes there are albums you wonder if you really should like it as much as you do. This is one of mine, and also filed under "randomly surfaces for a few weeks of rotation and then slips out for another couple years."
Secret admission: Every so often I wonder why, oh why did Luscious Jackson break up?
But all that's sort of predictable - of course I'm digging Songs from Scratch and listening to my dusty mid-90s collection. What are YOU listening to?

On Pandora I've been enjoying Serj Tankanian and Blaqk Audio.
I have a playlist on my Ipod with about 300 songs from these singer-songwriters. It is really all I have been listening to for about a month now.
WS R has the FYC on bookends & Sam Cooke 2x there. Seems like a good driving mix. Haven't heard of Serj Tankanian and Blaqk Audio, but I'll track 'em down. Got any warnings or advice on them? ;-)
Hmmm. Rob you have me wondering if Bright Eyes is working on a new album. Anyone?
Chris that must be one heck of a playlist. 300 songs? How often do you hit repeats?!

I've got the U.N.K.L.E. Theme Song playing in my ear at the moment. But I've been stuck on the latest Stars album In Our Bedroom After the War since I bought it last week. It's like an indie musical!
"Down South in the Bayou Country" is the only album of Gatemouth's that I own and it's the only one of his that I need. It's a honey.
I've been listening to Habib Koité, too. I really should buckle down and get to work on that story, huh?
I've been playing around on Pandora, coming across some interesting sounds as I build stations from some favorites. I'll return with suggestions.
Thanks to streaming on music sites, and samples from iTunes, MySpace and Amazon, I'm discovering that some artists I wouldn't have listened to are actually worth checking out. I'm shifting my brain around from wanting great albums only to appreciating great songs, so I'm starting to build singles playlists.
Sometimes I discover that an artist is a lot more than his reputation. More on that later, too.
Frick, love your 80s mix. I love Isaak and Scritti --- talk about diverse sounds!
Chris, just getting into Ray LaMontagne, too.
Anybody have the new k.d. lang? What a kick ass voice. I've been meaning to pick that up.
My taste ranges from alt-indie to mainstream pop, through neo-soul and classic R&B, through jazz- and blues-inflected rock and on to world music. Thanks for the suggestions here. I'll take a listen.
