My Husband Lost his job yesterday

August 05, 2008 11:36 AM EDT
views: 281 | rating: 10/10 (59 votes) | comments: 111

Yesterday my husband was let go from his job.

We worked at the same company & we pretty much saw it coming, but still it is a shock to take in. Especially since we just got back from our vacation.

They said they were letting him go because there is not enough work for him to do here. We both agree with that, but they slowly kept putting him in lesser positions over the past 6 months. I was upset that they did not let go other people that have been here a shorter period of time than he was (he was here over a year).

We are trying to look at it as a positive thing though. We know that God will be with us through this & will guide us in the correct path. Since we are trying to move back to Minnesota, this may be a blessing for us.

Now we just need to sell our house so we can move! Regardless, we are putting our trust in God and refusing to let this beat us down.

I will be paying more attention to everyone's money saving techniques for sure now & looking for more websites where I can boost our earnings!

Ouch.

He may want to look at doing some temp stuff in the meantime. That's what I would be doing here, but all that is available in this area is industrial-- which, unfortunately, I can't do.

Sadly, we are in such a horrible area for work. The closest big city is about 1 hour away.
He is going to get unemployment while he is looking, which is awesome - otherwise I might be freaking out a bit more.

Well that sucks! But I firmly believe that God does have a plan. It's almost meant to happen since you are trying to move to Minnesota. All I know is that the times I have lost a job, one much better came along and I would of not had that opportunity otherwise! Good luck, take care and you can join the rest of us one income families trying to cut pennies!

Glad you're not letting it get to you, Priscilla. Everyone is losing his job. My friend just got another job, but it will take him away for the week days, and I am very sad about that. It may end up that he'll sell his house if the job goes well. I don't really know what I should wish for more now.

The times that this has happened to those close to me, it always ends up as a blessing in disguise.

When I lost my job back in '04, I had been expecting it too. It was still a little scary. But now I know that I have never been happier being able to stay home with the dogs (not to mention I get to hang with my Gather friends all day) and work on projects at home.

Im so sorry to hear that your hubby lost his job. I know how much that bites. Last year we were in the same position, the economy just isn't doing good and his work was too slow so they laid off most of their employees.

I be send lots of prayers and job vibes your way for your hubby!

I can sympathize. I was let go 5 months ago from a job that I'd been at for so many years, but they closed the department and there was no where to go. I was hoping to use this as a push to move back to Minnesota myself, but I've applied all over the place both there and here in Jersey and haven't had any luck yet. Well, now I've been interviewing lately at Borders for a supervisor position, but I'm not sure how that'll work out or even if it will have the pay I need/want. I wish your husband luck and you too on the selling of your house, etc.

I've been there. My husband worked for a company for 23 years, and they shut the doors. We went from no money problems to terror over night. But, it has turned out to be such a blessing. I'm sorry to hear about your husband's job--growing up my dad was in an industry that had a lot of layoffs, so I know what you're going through. God does have a way though of turning things around for right, and He'll see you through it.

I have one thing that might be able to help you, but this takes a few months to get off the ground. I'm making quite a bit of money writing articles online (which I've been building up since January of this year). I recently created a website that has all the sites I write for plus how-to articles, etc. It's all free, and I've been giving it out to my friends and people at church. Here's the site:

http://webwritercentral.googlepages.com/home

Gather is already on there, but you may find the other ones useful that pay through PayPal, etc. Feel free to e-mail me if there's something you have a question about--it's a work in progress as far as explaining all the sites.

Best wishes to you! I'm going to send you a friend request, too. :)

It may end up being the best thing that's ever happened to him although I know it's scary now. My husband got fired from a job eight years ago. He thought it was the end of the world but it ended up being a good thing because it was replaced with a much better job that he'd have never found otherwise.

Sorry to hear the news, I went through the same thing sometime back and the thing is to always stay positive. My husband was laid off about a month ago, along with his boss!
We don't believe in god, we believe in getting feet to pavement(or fingers to keyboard). As of Monday, he's got another job in the same field and making more money! His ex-boss gave him a rave recommendation; one of the salesmen he used to work with did the same.
The area he works in is a community, sort of--every one knows everyone, so those recommendations go a long way.

I'm so sorry you have been placed in this situation. However, as others have said, it may be a blessing in disguise. If it gets you back to Minnesota, then maybe all's well that ends well? Until then, hang in there - you only get one shot at life. Live the best one you can despite the circumstances that it throws at you.

It is a sad state of affairs in our country -everyone knows it.
Don't feel like the lone ranger -there are a lot of us that could fit in his shoes, and have walked this mile. I'm one of them. And, tho' I'm getting nowhere fast, I'm still walking.

I just got one of those promotional calls saying I had won a trip to Costa Rica and Orlando , and for $99. I could ,,,,I hung up. I get about 40 such calls a day. Yea sure, I won. Back in the old days when you entered to win something you actually did. Nowdays. How would a person actually know.?????

I know you post a lot of photos, and that you are probably on cash earnings. I will tell my friends to come help you out. Because I consider you a friend too.

Sorry to hear about your husband's job loss. Unfortunately, it's the economy's downturn and the housing market is probably going to make selling your house a challenge too. The best thing is to be supportive of each other, and know that better days are ahead. And Vote for a change come November.

Does he work at the nursery? I was under the impression that was where you worked.
Is the big town the one I was telling you I loved their food At Luby,s it was in the mall then. On the loop as you come into town or leave town. which ever way you are going. there could be jobs in that Mall available. What about Canton First Monday. Maybe have a get rid of unnecessary items sale. Is he handy with his hands to build things.
