In Essex, Massachusetts there is a store than pretty much defies written description. The White Elephant shop is actually two shops, one is a collectibles and antiques store and the other is more of a junk outlet open on weekends only. Together they are colorful and certainly fun. You never know what you will find there.
The White Elephant Shop was first opened in May of 1952. The present owners, Rick and Jean Grobe, have been running the store since 1985. Voted the "Best Antique Shop on the
North Shore" two years in a row by Boston Magazine, The White Elephant Shop remains the most unique antique and collectible shop north of Boston.

My brothers church was having a white elephant sale. I assume this is where the name comes from. Funny thing is he actually thought that they were going to cell just white elephant figurines.
