Today's question....

Are you a saver or a spender?

I am a saver.  I hate to shop so that might be one of the reasons that I am a saver. I also tend to spend money on more of the big ticket items that I know I will get years of use out of or on vacations because I love to travel. For the most part with the exception of birthdays and holidays I don't spend unless it is something my family needs.

I'm pretty in between.... I can be a big spender but I can also be quite frugal and stash it away when needed. I think I'm a happy medium? I used to be a horrible spender!!!!!!! Thank goodness I learned my lesson with age!

My children tease me that I bleed tartan plaid! They roll their eyes whenever I pull out coupons. I would say that I don't have the opportunity to save as in savings account, but save on a daily basis on EVERYTHING.

Sarah - If you don't like the question then don't comment. You can go elsewhere and spend time doing whatever you want. Since when do I need to be told what I should be spending time on? If you have paid any attention instead of jumping in with a negative comment you would see I have been doing a series of questions to get to know the people I interact with here on Gather. If becoming more personal with the people on the site tht I enjoy talking to does not add to the Gather experience then I do not know what does.

I can be both at times. I'm able to save a great deal quickly by cutting back, but I can also go all out if need be.

i am definitely a saver. my husband is a spender. bad combo! i like to spend money, like you, on big ticket items after saving up for them... things i know we will use a lot and have a high quality as well as spend on traveling. my hubby likes to spend money left and right! lol!

Thanks Cathi and Adelaide. I think it takes a lot more then a few questions here and there to get to know a person and you have to see that person from all aspect of their life. What their beliefs are, what their habits are, etc..

I am somewhere in between. I do spend, but try to look for the best deals possible to make my money go farther. I try to save when I can, but like Jessica my husband tends to go out and spend if the money is there.

I like your getting to know you questions Chris just because it is getting people to interact with others and learn something new about someone, which is what Gather is ALL about. So, if you don't have anything constructive to add to the conversation, don't bother leaving a comment and move on to where your interests are.

I'm a skrimper. I don't have much to save because I don't have much to spend. I cut corners wherever I can, but I can't complain. I live comfortably...just not extravagantly. I can make do without things I really don't need, but I'll splurge every now and then.

I'm in between. We have savings that automatically come out before we ever even see my husband's paychecks. We save part of my online income, too. Everything else, we spend. We spend more money than we should on things like toys (for my toddler and husband both!), dvd's, books (uh oh, that one's me and the toddler), etc. We don't go into debt for these things, though!

I used to be a saver. Now, all I do is spend. My kids are home on summer break, and they eat and drink a lot! I can't keep food in my fridge these days. And, the bills are getting higher, that's the worst.

I am an impulse buyer and I know it, so therefore I try not to shop very much. I can walk it a store with a list and walk out with two carts full - not good. My husband is a miser.:)

I would say I'm a nice combination of both!

I will save up to buy something we really want or need.

I'm the saver. My hubby is the spender and its not little items he buys either its the one thats cost at least $200 plus each time he buys something. Oh wait thats like every month it seems like.
I save whenever I can on whatever I can. At this time though, I'm a bit of a spender because our home is in need of some serious repairs. I guess I have to consider it's not spending as much as it is saving the house.

Oh man.. Umm... I have to say were more of a spender.. I try to be a saver but its hard.. we were so broke the first few years... adn now we have money.. Its ncie to be able to buy things we always wanted.. We buy big things too.. like flat screen, 2 4wheelers, fixing to buy a go cart.. we buy things the whole family can enjoy.. I save when I can but we splurge alot too!

I'm a bargain hunter and I don't often splurge. We have been forced to watch every penny for the last several years, but it is paying off. My husband and I are on the same wavelength, so it is very easy to budget.

Growing up relatively poor, I did not have the option of shopping and spending so when I became my own person, I was a hellion and spent too much and credit cards were my constant companions. A really serious car wreck injury took me out of employment but the bills were already a living entity and I spent the next two years trying to heal my body and pay my bills while NOT working or barely working. Bankruptcy took care of it all but the lingering black mark on my credit so I am still under that black cloud after 8 years but hope to emerge in 2010 a credit-reformed woman. You need more than spending allows you so strike a happy bargain with your inner devil that he can have his day as soon as the inner angel says she has enought laid by to combat the inner devil's id-iotic needs.
