After we ate a gigantic meal, including a salad filled with homegrown vegetables and a platter of grilled yellow squash and zucchini grown in my grandma's back yard, I took the kids out back to get dirty.

Cammie likes to run the show!
She starts by reading to Ashton.

She points out a hairy earwig.
Cammie: "GROSS!"
Ashton: "COOL!"
Our motley crew included my 16-year old cousin Garrett, my 10-year old cousin Cammie, my 4-year old nephew Ashton, Sam who is almost 13 months, and my nephew Nathaniel who will turn one this month. The two little ones were much more interested
in running around the yard and trying to get into my grandma's big garden.
Big decisions! Picking out seeds!
Cammie chose lavender and thyme. She said she loves "her-bs". Then she corrected herself. "erbs"

Her gardening tips? "Don't try to plant corn in clay".

Ashton chose carrots and oregano--or as he says it "ah-weg-eh-no".
After another quick flip through the book for tips, we get to planting!

I planted sunflower seeds for Sam and Nathaniel. Garrett planted green beans. Sure, it's late in the season, but if nothing else comes out of this, we had a great time together.
I am so appreciative to have been chosen to get this book. I loved sharing this experience with my family, including my mom, who took pictures so I could plant. I'll let you know if we grow anything!
