No one could listen
No one could hear
No one could know
How strong were her fears
No one could tell
Behind closed doors
How many times
She hurt down to the core.
She'd plot and plan
Make her escape
When she grew up
It was her only fate
She tried to smile
Hope for the best
Most days she'd
Put on her best dress
There were mistakes
And hell to pay
Getting beat up
Hearing words that slay
Living a lie
"Everything's okay
Hurt on a knob
Just yesterday.
Fell down the stairs
Walked in a wall"
Say anything
Cover up it all.
Time may heal
Bruises you see
But the damage
Inside burns and seethe.
Sleeping in bed
Now all alone
Waking up to
One who didn't belong
Stomach so sick
Being held tight
Not really worth
Putting up a fight
Nightmares follow
For decades past
Can't sleep right
What smiles mask...
