So you have just finished a fabulous tour of the great vineyards of the North Fork of Long Island and you're heading back to the city. What's the perfect way to end the day? I would recommend Michael Anthony's Food Bar in Wading River. 2925 North Wading River Road, Wading River, N.Y. (As you head west on Sound Avenue there is a stop light that leads to the state park. Take a right and head north until the end of the road - North Wading River Road - and then left for a short ride to the food bar.)
As a local in Wading River I've known the old "2x4" for years, but this place has become a jewel in the local cuisine. Tonight I decided to try this place, bringing along my most trusted assistant in food cusine (yes it's my mother).
Their menu is interesting. There is the "wine bar" the "beginning bar" the "raw bar" the "salad bar" the "pasta bar" the "our plates" and the "grill bar." There is also a family style dinner that feeds 2 to 4 per plate on Sundays and an Intalian night every Wednesday and Thursday.
I had for an appitizer the Oyster shooters with cucumber vodka and tomato Gazpacho and for the main meal I went wild with the Quail Chili rubbed with Sweet Soy and Berry Chutney, whipped potato. My mother had the Salad of "Karen" with a gorgeous gorgonzola, caramelized pears and crisp walnuts and the Duck Breast with Fresh Chive and Vanilla Honey Glaze, Polenta cake.
Here is what the New York Times has to say about the place: "The sign outside the restaurant reads "Michael Anthony's Food Bar, Ordinary to the Extraordinary." The ordinary is the location and the décor; the extraordinary, the food."
Once again, if you don't know where it is, click on the google map link here.
