EDIT: If you enter please use as part of your title Impossible Mission or put it in the description if it is in one of the visual (art, photography etc.) mediums.
We have had several challenges to members in the group Post Art - Any Medium and I have to say members have come up with some great results. Two of them are spotlighted on the group page now. I thought I would open this one up to the rest of Gather. There are probably those who love art, are artists (any medium) or both who are unaware of the group, so this is a way you can get to know about it and enjoy a good challenge.
Here is how the challenge works. I present you with the lyrics from a song. You must take those lyrics and interpret them. In essence make them your own. Then using your medium of art present your interpretation to the rest of us. I am not asking you to rephrase the lyric, but use it as a starting point (you could say use them as an inspiration) to create your work. If you don't belong to the group and would like to participate, just click on the link above to go to the group site to join. I have already issued this challenge to the group members.
Here are the lyrics you will use as your starting point.
I Am a Rock
Simon & Garfunkel
A winter's day
In a deep and dark December;
I am alone,
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
I've built walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain.
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
Don't talk of love,
But I've heard the words before;
It's sleeping in my memory.
I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died.
If I never loved I never would have cried.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
I have my books
And my poetry to protect me;
I am shielded in my armor,
Hiding in my room, safe within my womb.
I touch no one and no one touches me.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
And a rock feels no pain;
And an island never cries.
Listen to I Am a Rock.
I know time constraints are arbitrary, but we have to have them. So I have set a two week limit. This will end on or about (but not before) 17 August 2008. Please place any questions, comments, concerns etc. below.
The Gauntlet has been thrown down! Good luck to everyone who wishes to participate!

P.S. If you would like to look at the previous challenges and their results they are.
Based on Laura Nyro's December's Boudoir and The Confession which were used to create Isis A.'s A Response to Laura Nyro's December's Boudoir By Isis Andersen and Selene S.'s TheInsidesOfMyChocolateBox (On this one the guys wimped out)
Based on Billy Joel's She's Always A Woman which was used to create Thomas W.'s The Emma Issue: a Short Story
Based on Simon & Garfunkel's A Simple Desultory Philippic (Or How I Was Robert McNamara'd Into Submission) used to create Isis A.'s I been Norman Mailered, Maxwell Taylored An Impossible Poem for Simon & Garfunkel & Chana By Isis Andersen and Thomas W.'s Disgust Discussed (Dysentery)
A little background. When I used to substitute teach they put me in an art class one day. The morning classes complained that they had to do the same boring crossword that they did everytime their teacher was out. I had two class periods off so I drove home and got a book about Saul Steinberg, best known for his New Yorker magazine covers. I had heard he once said that his art told the story of his life. So for the last classes of the day, I told the classes a little about Steinberg and showed them some of his art. Then I had them draw pictures of their lives. Some were very interesting and telling.
It started in my mind because of an article I published on Gather called But Is It Art?. Then a couple of us in the Post Art - Any Medium group started the Impossible Mission challenges on Gather based on the theme of the show Mission Impossible where in the beginning the character Jim Phelps gets the mission for his group (usually tape recorded) and then the tape self destructs in ten seconds. I realize this is a dangerous mission so I caution you to be careful, enjoy yourself, and I will eagerly await your responses!

. I look forward to reading your featured links.
This sounds like a very fun "mission."
winding in among memories and dreams
hiding saintly still
caught in reverberation
ever more densely
molecules bending in, condensing
whole, strong, hard,
fit to stand,
unfit to move
