It is morning. It is evening. I am sitting on the front porch. Here I am behind the reincarnated Mimosa tree. The mother tree died when mama did but the root still contained life. It grows before my eyes. Everyday gives it a new branch. My spirit glows and grows through the humidity on this day like the branch - every leaf is a thought. Any day and everyday but always on a porch day - I sit. I ponder life, explore old memories, travel down the road and all over the map. I rock. I put my feet up on the railing and rejoice. I give thanks for the ceiling fan in the other corner, for this old cypress rocker that I bought for $10 last year. I am grateful that mama's hibiscus are growing. I cherish the many birds who love Winn-Dixie wild bird seed. I am home.
Across the street, old marble tombs date back to the early 1800's. Ancient red roses ramble over Victorian script of heart-felt epitaphs. I love that my dad had the foresight to buy this lovely house whose original family rests only a few yards away. There are times I am grateful for their company.
The time passes slowly. There is no hurry. I shall return here year after year and then rest eternally across the street where I can look over at the girl sitting on the porch in an old cypress rocker with her feet on the railing. Thank you for reading this. Salud.

I'd like to walk up to you, while you're sitting on that porch, and say "Mariana. I'm Fred. Let's have some red wine and talk."
I'd love to do it especially today as its my birthday.I love the way things regrow. It's as if they want to stay with you for a while longer. To remain a connection to the past.

Well done!
with you beneath the branching memories. May the morning and evening embrace you with warmth and peace and happiness! Love to you and thank you for sharing your graceful words!
Beautiful.
Putting my feet up is a requirement for me. It drives me crazy that I can't figure out how to do it while on the computer (desktop).
Anyway, keep on keepin' on. Enjoy your stay.
I think I'll go home tonight and make some of those pralines. Who doesn't always have pecans handy?
I've been up in the Redwoods of northern California this past week gazing at stars and wondering at the magnificent trees and ferns and elk. I even got to spend a couple evenings in a lovely reunion with Eloise!! What a hoot. We worked our way thru a bottle of Southern Comfort and had us a time. Thought about you and your encouragement as I was searching for my long-lost friend. She was so excited that I had found her at last.
Back now to the office and catching up on my work. But I can stop and enjoy the view out my 2nd-floor window at the flowering trees in Uptown Whittier, and imagine myself back in the woods.....
Good to read your posts
Many blessings, my friend......
