Back many years ago now when I was very much younger and married. We as a family would go out to eat rarely what with four children and being the only one working at that time. So when we did go out it was a big occasion.
This one time after saving up for the night out we arrive at the restaurant. It was the usual you wait to be seated and the hostess tells you your waitress will be with you shortly. Everything was going rather well what with having four young children at the time. Our youngest was about four at the time (he will be thirty seven next month) and the oldest was nine.
Our waitress arrives to take out order. So far so good it seems this is going to be a nice night out for the whole family. Our order is taken and as the waitress is walking a way our youngest son stands up in his chair and starts saying in a rather loud voice, "She looks like a dog!" Talk about wanting to crawl under the table and hide.
My wife says to him no she doesn't. Does that shut him up? NO! He says equally as loud again "Yes she does, she looks like a dog!" That goes on for several minutes. Of course everyone else can hear him as well as the poor young lady who is our waitress. I try to get him to stop saying that she looks like a dog. Finally we get him to quiet down and stay quiet the rest of the meal.
We ate in silence and as quickly as we could and left soon after the meal was over. Yes, I left the young lady a very good tip and apologized for my son's statements. Did we ever go back to that restaurant? No, and to tell the truth I can't even remember the name of it. Guess because I wanted to put that night behind me.
Oh, and no the waitress did not look like a dog or for that matter any other animal that I could imagine. She was rather attractive which made my son's saying she looked like a dog even worse.
It was a long time before we ventured out to another restaurant again.

Jeni, have no idea why he came out with that comment but then he was always saying what he felt or thought without worrying how it would sound...
Donna, I smile now but that day I wasn't smiling more like wanting to shrink down to the size of a flea...the waitress took it in stride and acted like he had never said anything another reason I tipped her so well, as well as apologizing for my son's comment...
Children and what comes out of their mouths...he was only being honest in his own way...but why come out with it at that time...agh!!!
:O)
I have had similiar experiences with both my own kids and my foster kids. Kids do not always say cute things. ;o)
I recall my son running out to me yelling MOM YOU LEFT ALL THIS MONEY>>>
well I led him back to give our waitress the tip, and he remembers it to this day!
