She's sitting there in her Sunday best
Waiting for her Dad
Ribbons on her socks and in her hair
Wonder why she looks so sad
Is it because he hasn't been here for awhile
Or is she just anxious for him to get home
Little girls have lots of reasons
Some just don't like to be alone
Or is she just a wee bit afraid
While waiting for her dad
Does he try to do something to her
That will make her feel real bad
And maybe she can't tell her Mommy
Because he said it is all right
But the thought of it makes her tummy
turn over and over in fright
I wish she had a smile on her face
And a happy look in her eyes
I wish she could be looking forward to
Seeing her Dad,, not looking ready to cry
Perhaps I am wrong how I see this
And she's patiently waiting for him
That is the way it should be
With her running into his arms with a grin

I share with you your concern. Sometimes, one reads about these dreadful scenarios in the papers. I get such a feeling of revulsion when that happens.
She has thr right to jump up and run to her daddy and fell totally safe in his arms.
As a poem, Elsie, this was very well written. Must be one of your best. Well done.
Very thoughtful, Elsie. The sad part is everything you've described is very true for many children.
she is sooo sweet... and nowadays, you can never tell...
Blessings... love you...
I have seen it on many childrens faces through my years.
Very well written, when her Dad comes she welcomes him.
every picture has more than one story and I applaud your courageous and well placed words..this is a winner in my opinion...
and so are you!
Yes, I see the sadness too, and I hope there is a simple, safe reason for it...
