We live in what is called the Houston Whiteside Historical District.
I took this tidbit from an old news article about Houston Whiteside:
Whiteside was a young Tennessee lawyer who moved to town when the city was just a year old. According to William G. Cutler's "History of the State of Kansas," he settled in Hutchinson in May 1872 and established The Hutchinson News, issuing the first paper on July 4, 1872.
In November of the same year, residents elected him Reno County Attorney. He served until 1877. He also was a city attorney for a couple years.
I took this picture from a website on Houston Whiteside. The picture I took myself you can barely see the house for the trees in front of it. This is the house originally owned by Houston Whiteside.

This is not a spectacular house, but I wanted to include it. If you read my article entitled The House Next Door
you read about my grandma (on my dad's side) moving out and down the street to another apartment house owned by my grandpa. This is the house she moved in to. Also sold back in 1979 with his estate.

We like this house because it looks like a miniature mansion. Looks like they are busy doing some work on it.

This is one of my favorites. I like the way it's built, and it's my favorite color. The kids say it looks like a cookie cutter house.

I saved what I think is the best for last in this essay.
I think this has to be the most awesome house in my town!!
Do you see the long shorter building in between the 2 parts of the house? That is a one lane bowling alley!! Can we say MONEY!!
I would love to just even have a tour of this house, and the first time it's on the Christmas tour of our district I will pay for that tour!

Now, these are houses on my street only. The district runs a 4 street and 4 block radius.
