Oil Companies Make Record Profits

According to the AP news, 6 of the major oil companies topped $50 billion dollars in sales last quarter, and Chevron and Total SA broke profit records.

And yet, there's nothing that can be done about high oil and gas prices.

Is anyone surprised by this?

Record sales? I should hope so! At the price of gas at the pump, someone better be making some money. I think it would be interesting to find out how much of that oil and gas is coming off of US soil. And I also think it is noteworthy that the regulations on drilling, refineries and etc. do send oil companines overseas.

But they NEED tax breaks and subsidies! If they want untrammeled greed, by all means let them bear the burden of a true capitalistic society.
