Alright, there's more proof that reality is more amazing than fiction. Last night my husband and I were sitting on the sofa watching the news and discussing our annual fall trip to Montauk, affectionately known as "The End" of Long Island's south shore. During our conversation, we saw a news flash about the Montauk monster.
Apparently an odd-looking creature washed ashore in Montauk and a woman got a photograph of the deceased beast right before it was shuffled away by locals (the monster remains at large at this point).
Speculation began that the Montauk monster was really a decomposing turtle or dog. With beady eyes, a beak like mouth and a purplish body, it's difficult to determine what this creature really it. Rumors said it was a Photoshop project and other rumors claimed it was a viral marketing campaign for the Cartoon Network television show 'Cryptids are Real'. Another local commented it could come from the government testing facility, Plum Island, located right outside of Long Island.
On Friday, Hamptons-based website, Plum, will be hosting the woman who took the pic and two witnesses on their web show, Juice. Apparently they already asked Plum Island about the Montauk monster and they were unable to identify the creature.
Is the Montauk monster part of a mad science project gone wrong? Is it really just a Photoshop gag or a marketing promotion? Is the Montauk monster a real creature that decomposed beyond recognition? Or will Montauk be home of a new legend - move over Bigfoot and Loch Ness Monster because the Montauk monster is coming through. Could it be a message to the people on earth from a higher power? As a local, I'll be watching closely...and postponing my annual getaway to Montauk for awhile...
