Summer months almost always mean bug bites. Throughout the month I have been getting bitten like crazy from insects coming inside the house. So, I decide to try out different methods and even made a post about home remedies. Here's what I've found.
I tried tooth paste. It didn't seem to work very well for me. An hour tops. Plus it was messy and the itch only seems to be stronger afterwards.
Then I tried Aloe Vera. It actually works for a long time if you stick on a huge amount. It keeps the itch cool, which could be why it works so well. The only problem is that it takes a little while for the itch to go away at first. Once it's completely dry, the itch slowly creeps back up.
Finally, I got Gold Bond. Medicated, name brand anti-itch cream! It work a lot faster than either of the two. Instant relief is great. However, it's hard to tell if it keeps the itch away for good or after a full day's use, which only makes it slightly better than sticking on a huge squirt of Aloe Vera.
I didn't try any of the other methods but I think all and all, I can say I never will try the toothpaste again. Aloe Vera is a keeper if I don't have anything else and since it's multi-purpose, that makes even better to have around in general. The option of scratching until the bite bleeds is still around too...
