We had a wonderful weekend up on our Moon Rock property just outside of Snowflake, Arizona. It was so nice to get away from it all and just relax.

On our way up we were a little worried about what the road conditions would be. Our property is hard, if not impossible, to get to if the area has had a lot of rain. The dirt roads get really slimy and nasty. We were really afraid that the creeks might have been running as well and there are a couple that we have to cross to get there. But we were pleasantly surprised to see that the roads had dried and parts of them had even been bladed.
It was pretty hot when we got up there so we unloaded all our stuff and sat in the cool room for a while. Outside the door of the trailer there is an old porch and Robert noticed a small mushroom growing in the wood. He took some awesome pictures. The mushroom is very tiny but his pictures make it look much bigger than it really is. He’s getting good with the camera.
Robert and I love our property so even though it was extremely hot we had to venture out for a few minutes at a time and explore. We find new things each time we go. There is always something to take pictures of.

Robert found another cool looking boulder. This one, he says, is called the Elepharockasaurus. LOL. I think I’m a bad influence on him.

It wasn’t long before the clouds started building and shading us from the sun. We watched all around us as the storms built and dumped rain on everyone but us. I got some shots of lightning off in the distance. Man, I love our views from the rocks!

After the storms had passed there was still plenty of time to play before the sun went down so we took off on the quads in search of one of the very few geocaches in the area.

Most of the area around here is privately owned in 40-acre parcels so there aren’t too many geocaches unless owners put them on their own pieces of property. The cache that we went to was called Castle in the Rocks and it was so cool. Someone had started to build a house literally into the side of the mountain. This house has electric boxes installed and plumbing but it was abandoned. I have no idea why this house was never finished but the final product could have been beautiful.

On our way in to the cache I had to laugh at this little broken down car. There are so many real vehicles out here that are in the same condition because of people having to drive these dirt roads in to town to work every day. I wonder how many times this one made it into Snowflake. LOL.

When we woke up Saturday morning the sky was overcast and the air was nice and cool. We decided to take the quads and go explore the area. There was deer track all over the place and I even found a really cool heart shaped cactus.

I ran into a cool little lizard that was just fascinated by me and he sat quite a while in this dead Juniper to watch me. As soon as I moved to get a better shot of his bright green self he took off. Oh well.

Pretty soon the clouds started building again promising rain and again it went around us but the air cooled a great deal and it felt wonderful. With this storm we got quite a bit of rainbows, black clouds, wind, and lightning in the distance.

We spent the rest of the weekend with my aunt and uncle. It was a great weekend! I can’t wait to get back to our Moon Rock again.

Oh, wow. That Castle in the Rocks is really interesting. We might have to get a plat map, find out who owned (owns) it and see if we can get a history on it.
I can even breathe in the wonderful smells of Juniper, soil, fresh air......oh so much richness....as the storms passed over; your photos bring up all that. Nothing better.
Be sure and e-mail Pam a link to this.
Mom: You wouldn't believe how green everything is right now. The pictures just don't show it well enough. Everything looks alive; well, except for the dead stuff of course. LOL. Heck, even the lizards are green.
Beautiful photos, Toni

Thanks for sharing your weekend with us.

Wow, John, I'll bet that house was cool. There are some unique houses in the area where our property is. One is a two story built around a bus and one is octogonal and domed shaped. Both are abandoned.
Thank you everyone. I'm so glad you enjoy these articles.
Thank you everyone.
