I love to shop Aldi for the prices but don't much anymore because of the distance to drive there across town.

I remember years ago how we would load the trunk of the car with our ice chests and drive to Wichita just to shop at Aldi. I bet gas was like $1.59 a gallon then!
I was thrilled when they built one in my town. I remember it was when someone was in the hospital having a baby when they had their grand opening. I just don't remember if it was me having Jasmine almost 12 years ago or my daughter, Elizabeth having Allen Jr 7 years ago. The memory is not so good on dates and times anymore LOL
If you have one near you and you don't shop there, you should give it a try. It's what they call a no frills store. No baggers, they don't accept checks, and you pay a quarter to use the cart(but you get that back when you return the cart to the line). They do not accept coupons.
I spent under $25 today and really got quite a bit.
applesauce $0.89 a jar over the $1.39 a jar at Dillons.
Milk is $2.95 a gallon over the $3.29 at Dillons
1 lb frozen ground turkey is $0.99 over the $1.89 at Dillons
Larger cans of fruit are $1.19.
Smaller cans of fruit are $0.89 (small mandarin oranges $0.45)
3 lb bags of chicken breasts are $5.99 compared to $8.99 at Dillons
onions are .89 for a bag compared to about that much for just 1 at Dillons.
All their fresh fruits and veggies are comparably lower in price over Dillons.
I did notice that a 12-pack of their brand of soda is the same price as the store brand at both Dillon's and at Wal-Mart.
Most of the items in the store are their ownbrand products, but they also carry name brand items at a discount. The name brand items change all the time. Today I got a box of Kraft Pasta Salad mix for .99
We only have 3 stores here to buy groceries...Dillon's, the Super Wal-Mart and Aldi.
I need to take the time and the drive at least once a month for what I can get at Aldi's cheaper. Otherwise I need to really watch the sales and my coupons at the other stores.

The store was not very clean. The products they carried all seemed to be some sort of 'off-brand', and the prices were not that great. The selection was very limited.
P.S. Thanks for bringing up this discussion in Frugal Eats!
Yup, I know they are a grocery store - love a lot of their stuff - great prices and I always bought my jammies there:)

I will be making my first trip to Aldi in about a month when they open.
My husband and I are on the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University and working on getting out of debt. We are using cash only for grocerys and other items which we keep in envelopes.
I cannot wait till they get this place built so I can start shopping there.
The BEST STORE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
