Living my life famous
With doors open wide
Getting into places
Where others are denied
Eating rare food
All my concerts out sold
Never needing to worry
'Bout doing what you're told
Photos splashed here - there
And all over the place
People eager just to
Get a look at my face
Bank accounts growing
Seven digits and more
Could life be much better?
Everyday so much more
Wild parties the drinks
Fun trips to the coast
Often appearing on tv
Always drinking a "toast"
Letters that come from
All my fans in the mail
Gifts, applause and praise
How could my life fail?
And when the day I die
All newspapers will spread
News all around the world
All will hear that I am dead!
I will be sorely missed
And go down in history,
But wait a minute
Then, there will only be me.
I stand before God
He says to me "Son,
I had some work
I wanted you to get done.
I knocked on your door
Plenty of times
But you were too busy
Singing your rhymes.
Your Grandma told you
How my son died for you
Didn't you believe
When she said it was true?
Where did you think
You would go at the end?
Now where is your money
And all your fancy friends?
You wanted stardom
And you rose to the top
You got what you wanted
But drugs you couldn't stop
You wound up here
Your heart just couldn't take
The junk in your system
And the food that you ate.
I'm sorry there's nothing
I can do now for you
I wish you had listened
To believing it's true.
My son died for all
To have a better life.
But you went astray
It hurt me like a knife."
I woke up in a sweat
What I dreampt was all true...
My chest was in pain
Down my arm it went too...
I grabbed the phone
To make that 911 call
Then I prayed "Dear Lord
I thought I knew it all.
Please dear Jesus
Hear my earnest cry
I am so sorry
It was you I denied.
Please forgive me
Of all of my past
It's your love I want
Sorry I never asked."
A vision appeared
At the foot of my bed,
Jesus stood there
With his arms outspread
"Dear Son I loved you
For your whole life long
You are forgiven
Remember me in song
Help others find me
With the gifts you have
Go on in peace
I love you my lad."
The ambulance came
And now in a hospital bed
I write this for you
About the life I led.
All the treasures on earth
Pale to compare
When you don't know Jesus
And don't know that he cares.
Pray to the Lord
To reach in your heart
So you'll get forgiven
And a new life to start.
