A.F. Stewart is a poet in the bardic tradition. She is a storyteller, a weaver of words. The tales she tells in poetic form are those we all carry in the depths of our memories, and the words she uses evoke memories out of time: the pale moon, the leaping bonfire, the hunt, the hounds, the gods, the dragons.
Employing vivid nature imagery and color, and with a intimate knowledge of Celtic myth and imagery, Ms. Stewart gives everything from a modern-day Lizard King to the Irish uprising of 1916 to those stories from the distant past that immortality that is bestowed by the true poet alone.
I don't think my review can truly capture or suffciently express how powerful and moving Tears of Poetry really is. I know that I will be going back to this small volume and re-reading and pondering her lines many, many more tims, and that, after all, is the mark of worthy poetry: that it invades your heart and pulls you back to it. And that is what A.F. Stewart has achieved with these poems.
