Just as Predicted.......

Ok so I knew it when I did it but I am ALWAYS hopeful that I won't be so lazy.  I'm almost embarassed to show you guys but alas I will.

At the beginning of the summer I am so gun-ho about the garden.  I did careful preparations but missed one essential thing......the weed stopper.  I added hummus and OleRoy dog food to the soil, tilled it about 5 times, watered it and let it sit for a day.  I then planted and totally forgot about the weed blanket. 

So when I came home from vacation the weeds had overtaken the garden and I have been trying to save it ever since.  We have gottten crops already so all is not lost.  We have eaten 4 cucumbers from the garden and have eaten a bunch of tomatoes too.  It just looks soooooooooo sad.

 There is always next year!!!

I like your garden ....it's SO much like mine... although I've never added dog food to it :)

Hey it isn't your fault. Mine looks the same way. I think all the rain didn't help. I think it drowned everything. I have a lot of tomatoes but none green yet. Plus those two storms that took out your bohio took out my plants.
Thanks for sharing and just try to get what ya can from it.

Hey you got some good looking veggies there. I'd be happy about that. Who cares about the weeds anyway? You're not going to see them when you're eating your veggies. :)

If you hadn't gone on vacation, I'm sure you would have kept on top of the weeds...but at least you got away for a little enjoyment; much better than weeding a garden. At least you got some produce to enjoy...homegrown is best and always seems to taste better. I wish I had a lawn to plant a few things. No chance on the third floor. I couldn't even put pots out on the balcony. I'm sure I could have managed to get some out there, but I know the neighbors would have helped themselves to whatever I grew. I'm actually surprised none of them have taken my bird feeders yet, or at least knocked them off, part animals that they are. (I never get invited to join their parties, either. No one wants a one leg wonder around.)

Aw ghee whiz Danielle be easy on yourself. Remember my favorite saying, "Even the great Mickey Mantle used to strike out". Think of it this way, you will never forget the weed barrier again. Enjoy the garden the pics were great.

My husband has taken good care of his garden this year and it looks great. There are green peppers, cucumbers, and tomatoes in it. However, my dog has gotten into the garden a few times and torn up some plants. I told my husband that he needs to put a small fence around the garden so the dog knows it is off limits. The dog will be older and more mature next summer, so maybe less likely to bother the garden.

My son and his wife have a garden this year. They have gotten tomatos, peppers, and even a couple of eggplants out of it. (Funny thing is that my son won't eat any of it...lol)

I have never heard anything about using dog food. I am with the others, what is that about?

I know the dog food sounds weird but my step mom told me it adds all the nurtients to the soil that the veges need.

We have a dog that scavengers for food and she hasn't gone near the garden yet. I'm not sure if I tilled it in too good or what but we have had not critter problems so far not even the dog.
