I had a great time today at my friend's 90th birthday party... It was held in a huge room at a community center in a nearby town:

They had a band there that played wonderful 40s tunes like "Take the A Train" and "I Only Have Eyes for You":

Like me, my friend is an avid gardner and each of the tables were decorated with a little watering can with gardening tools and flowering plants in them and a pair of gardening gloves:

The little postcards at the bottom of the shot had photos of my friend taken at different times in her life... Back in the 1920s, she was a beauty queen! :o)
They also had an "open bar" with 3 or 4 kinds of beer, white and red wine and all kinds of soft drinks, bottled water and fruit juice... Here's the "birthday girl" waving to everybody standing between the "cake table" and the bar:

My friend had a high school sweetheart but they broke up right out of high school... She was married a couple of times and, after being widowed in her early 70s, she and her high school beau got hooked up again. Here they are together:

It was so cute... Everybody had name tags and his had his first name and, underneath that, it said "Main Squeeze"! Hers said "Birthday Girl"!
Here's a shot of the entire family:

They served all kinds of great appetizers, baked fresh salmon, broiled chicken breasts, salad, broiled asparagus and 3 or 4 kinds of bread -- oh! and, of course, birthday cake! (Actually, there were two different cakes. One was all chocolate and the other was all vanilla!)
This lady volunteers at Luther Burbank's Farm -- the same historic site where I volunteer. She and I were "co-chairs" of the Farm Advisory Committee for a couple of years together and there were a lot of the other longtime volunteers there, too!
At one point, one of the other lady volunteers and I got up and danced to a "real swingin' number" and, pretty soon, I looked around and the whole dancefloor was filled with ladies all dancing "swing" together!
It was a BLAST!

No, she certainly DOESN'T look 90 -- and she doesn't act like it, either! She is always on the go and works very hard at the Farm and her other volunteer jobs... When I grow up, I want to be just like her! ...lol...
Your friend hardly looks 90 at all. My she really has taken good care of herself hasn't she??
Birthday greetings are the order of the day for your friend.
Thanks for sharing her and the party with us. ;)
She's a really wonderful person, Paidra... Thanks... :o)
Thanks, Robyn, I'll pass it on!
We should ALL be so lucky, Rose!
I suppose she probably DOES have good "genes", CF... But, I like to think part of it is her love of gardening and flowers and working out in the fresh air!
It was a real blast, ee... I think everybody had a wonderful time!
Get out there! Take a chance!
Everybody grows up and the friends we had when were very young grow up, too... Most times, the distance that doing that puts between us as people and friends is considerable... So, go out and meet some NEW adult people who aren't likely to be changing who they are... Ones who already share something with you that you can get behind right now!
