THIS IS A 'POST'

THIS IS AN 'ARTICLE'

YOUR WRITERS (read 'users', 'customers') write 'Articles', we do not write 'posts'.
Any Questions?

please publish this to Tom's group, Building a Better Gather
It is moderated but after someone from Tom's office sees the article, they will accept it into the group.
I agree with Ghostly ghoul. Publish vs. share
I was gone from gather for a week and couldn't find my way around. when I got back. Why all the changed names for the old things?
KEO - I sent this directly to Maryanne Flynn; she works with Tom.
Articles - original work, either fiction or researched, that comes from an author's brain
Posts - Shared jokes, shared info from email, games, conversations for fun
Published photos & videos - original work from a person that is either fanciful or documentary in nature.
Posted photos & videos - something not original to the person sharing it
Now there may be some who say I'm picking over the meanings/connotations of the words, but that's what writers, even ones in the amateur league I'm in, do.
Of course being the Mayor I tend to agree with you and the Queen all the time

The "post" shown might remind us of when hell freezes over.
Suddenly my links aren't working in mail and comments. Upgrades bring glitches to be worked out. I'm hoping Gather staff get the message.
Post is also my favorite brand of cereal. Grape Nuts, Total, Raisin Bran, Honeycomb...
Where's the milk?
And, mail is something that comes in my mailbox at home everyday. Junk mostly.
My stuff here ain't junk, so why are they calling it that?
Thank you my fair king for "sharing" your talent with everyone.
And, I hope that post don't accidentally go somewhere it's not supposed to. Like a dark, place, somewhere where the sun don't shine..
You here that "gather" I mean, ice. I mean..
Oh, you know..
Don't tell anyone. Sshh.
They also tell me that so and so has just shared a post.
(In case you missed English 101, in that sentence the verb is shared not post)
(it also stands for "Pantaloons On Seahorses: Tacky" and "Penny Ordered Steak Tartare", but these are less relevant).
Karen
What can I say Lis, writers are a fickled lot, we are.
Crystal, these changes are mild compared to the bizarre Gather dream that just woke me up. That's right folks I have Gather dreams. Maybe Tom has me on the payroll and I don't know it.
Thank you, Thank you and thank you for this blatant clarification. I sure hope the Gather team gets the drift.
I haven't laughed this loudly in a while now...it made Bill come running to see what was so hilarious....and it wouldn't be funny if it weren't true...
I read and that dose look like a article. Now the folks at Gather should know that. To bad they dont.
Mind you I only do that on Saturday Evenings.
The word "post" merely is another word that describes a way something that has been written (whether it be a message, letter, story....etc) and presented to the readers.
Gather is just describing the action you took to deliver your article.
Webster College Dictionary reads....Publish electronically to make test appear online or at an internal location.
Even as a noun, what ever you 'post' , whether it be a letter, article, announcement etc. It's still a "post". It's all semantics. I'm sure Gather isn't trying to insult anyone.
What do you do when you write something for another website that phrases it as 'posting' a 'post' and always has? Or is it that you've gotten use to Gather phrasing it as 'publishing an article' and then changing it to 'posting a post' that pisses you off? It's the change that you like. Every other site I've been on always refer to submissions as posts.
Now it's: Share a Post
Most writers prefer publish....
Most social networking folks probably prefer share....
And ALL with any sense of humor should have got this posting, if you will, to be a pun.
ps: I don't write for other websites.
Now, there's another word, stuff. What is stuff? Well, maybe tomorrow.
Thanks dear.
If they have to stick with this 60's, smiley-face, "have a nice day" "Share" stuff, then break down "sharing" into smaller, distinct categories which more closely reflect what content we wish to share: articles, poems, etc. Maybe some of our intelligencia could adapt a categorization system found in most major news papers: personals, op-eds, lifestyle, etc.
Basically, no system is perfect but, as Gather is a work in progress, it is worth trying to improve the current system.
I agree completely
Still laughing ..........
Sorry Robert. I did get the humor behind your post/article and it was brilliantly done.
Whether you published this as a pun or not this is an issue you feel strongly about as do others.
Sometimes when there are responses that mostly agree to an article I like to play devils advocate and toss in a different perspective. In referring to you posting on other sites, it was merely hypothetical. Please don't take my response personal. :-)
Aren't your Cocoa Puffs going to get jealous?
(omg - you actually eat that stuff???)
