Three basic reason that most people take excessive risks:
1.  They want to get rich quick.
2.  They wait too long to begin investing.
3.  They take excessive risks because of ignorance.

Definitely true - we procrastinate, make excuses, and expect that we can "cram" in 40 years of investment in mere months.

I think that young people think retirement is "so far away" that they do not give it the consideration it deserves.
